Post subject:  patch the linux-2.4.25-chw with patch-2[1].4.25-epia2 ???

Hi
I hope someone can answer my questions.
I have a Via EPIA-M board and i want enable the CLE266 chip
for better DVD playback.

A normal installation mythtv setup is working for the TV part, but the DVD playback is terrible, and that’s because the cpu is used to 100%.
(I have enabled DMA on the DVD and hard drive.)

So after reading plenty of documents and forums, I have decided to optimize the kernel and use the CLE266 driver for better DVD playback.
I have a PVR-350 board but you can’t use (what I know) the mpeg decoder/encoder for DVD playback only TV-out.

This is the main part of the HTPC
Knoppmyth R4V4.1
Via EPIA M1000-N
PVR-350

Question 1
Can I use the patch-2[1].4.25-epia2 on the knoppmyth kernel(linux-2.4.25-chw).

Question 2
If I can patch the kernel, and use the \usr\src\linux\.config
is there something else I must think of?

well actually you can use the pvr350 for accelerated playback of dvd's, it's just a pain to configure.

If there is a kernel patch you should be able to apply it to the knoppmyth kernel, however the last I heard all the mpeg2 accelerated drivers for the epia boards were only released as binary modules, and those modules won't work with the knoppmyth kernel. Like I said that was last I heard, and as I don't have one of these boards I have not been following it closely.

Well what i have read the drivers for CLE266 is working with knoppix/debian, and i suppose the Knoppmyth and knoppix is using the same kernel with some twekins.

knoppmyth kernel is similar to those, but it is a completely custom kernel, like I said if it is a kernel patch or any sort of source code for that matter you should be able to use it, however if it is binary module then it is just a crap shoot trying to use it in any other kernel besides the exact one it was compiled for.
