Having some trouble setting the Hsync and vertrefresh in xf86config-4. Iām loged in as su but ā/etc/X11/XF86Config-4ā returns in Permission denied. |

you need to do "vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4" of course for that you will have to know how to use vi. there are other editors, but I'm not sure what all is installed by default in knoppmyth. basically when you just type "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" it is trying to run that file, but it is just a text configuration file and is not executable, so you have to open it in an editor. |

on the subject of VI, and being the nube I am, can you point out a good site that shows the most commonly used commands (ie: insert, write/save, quit, etc). Or maybe they're easy enough to post...... Thanks. |

At the command prompt, type vimtutor and press return. It will run an interactive guide that teaches you how to use vim. It's worth the time it takes. It's a great editor once you get the hang of it. ![]() |
