Some background: I had R4V2 working nicely with the patch to get tv listings from dd. Then one day I tried connecting a R4V4 frontend box and the frontend started to alter tables in the db, which failed. Shortly after that, updates from dd stopped working.

Fine, that's a good reason to upgrade to R4V4.1. That went badly. On my backend (Athon64, PVR350, 200gb hd, nvidia video card), the result was hda showed up as only a gig or so in size. No big deal, I'll just do a new install... The new install of R4V4.1 never quite worked. After searching these forums, I managed to get audio working (recompile ivtv...), but it was way off synch and stuttering. Also, every time I tried to run the i696-lx script, it would fail with a message about a missing lib for the nvidia video driver. Furthermore, no matter what Options/Rates I added to XF68-4, after installing the provided nvidia driver (via install-nvidia), I could never get the svideo out to be active.

I give the sordid details above only to explain what I did next: I bailed and decided to reinstall the old R4V2, which had been working nicely with the nvidia driver, i686 packages, and dd (until I broke it by attaching a newer frontend as explained above). Unfortunately, since the tv_grab_na is broken, I think my frequency data in the db is hosed or missing.

Finally: Here' s the symptom: I can't change the channel on my PVR350. All recordings start at the correct time, but record only the default channel (so I assume mythtv can't change the channel either). Also, when watching live TV, when I show on screen channel info, that info is blank (only the empty overlay panels show - no channel names, numbers, or program info.)

I've tried running mythtv-setup and clearing all info and reseting the TV card and channel provider info. Oddly, the channel source combo box now includes a source named "1", which is the sourceID I used when applying the tv_grab_na_dd patch as per other posts on this forum. Any suggestions on how I can get the frequency/channel info in the db fixed (given that old provider screen in R4V2 no longer works, and hence has never actaully run successfully on this new install of R4V2)?

Sorry for the novel, and thanks in advance!

well here's your problem R4V4 uses mythtv 0.15 and R4V2 uses 0.14, and you have to have matching mythtv versions between frontend and backend servers. What I have done to avoid all the problems with R4V4 is to install R4V2/3 and upgrade just mythtv using the .debs there are threads on how to do this over in announcement forum. This way you get the stable kernel that was in R4v2/3 and the newer mythtv which will match with the newer frontend plus 0.15 of mythtv has the new data direct built into it.

thanks! I reinstalled R4V2 and used the debs to get up to the latest.

One other question: It seems the KnoppMyth "Halt" menu items no longer exist. It was nice to have a way to shutdown using only the remote. Is there an easy way to restore that featue?
