Post subject:  A newbie asking a quick question

After using windows for my whole life I now want to try a linux system, but after serching the web i felt that installing a linux OS onto a new computer would take to long for someone like me who does not know much about programming...yet. I did stumble onto this site which looks like it is pretty simple to use and what i am looking for. Do you guys think i should try and get KnoppMyth tv working, or am i in over my head.

Look at it as a Quest. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I did have to rely on my Linux experience to pull me through the installs and upgrades, but that was about 10% of my problems, the other 90% can be searched for and resolved right here in the forums.

If you are looking for a PVR type box then sure go for it worst that could happen is you have to format and reinstall windows and use one of the windows PVR programs.

However is you are just looking for a linux distribution for a desktop system knoppmyth is definitely not what you are looking for. You should try one of the other distributions, many of them make install a snap these days.

I personally think installing Linux is WAY easier than installing Windows. If you want a desktop system that also functions as a PVR, then use another Linux distro. If you want aPVR and only a PVR, use KnoppMyth.
