I just installed R6 with only one minor issue.

I installed it as a slave backend to R5.5 master. It messed up my database and I had to manually re-enter my capture cards, inputs and so forth in mythtv-setup. I ran mythfilldatabase and restored all the channel bindings, then all my recordings, listings and upcomming recoring re-appeared. I also had to re-enter lots of settings in the frontend setup.

I probalby did not set up the master totaly correct, the article in the wiki seems a bit dated. But I also didn't have a current backup so it proably serves my right.

I don't know much (make that not anything at all) about sql so I can't realy comment on what exactly went on. Mayby the old upgarde thing that bit so many people?

Anyway, the only I can find still not working is mythweb, will try again later.

I didn't realize that adding a slave to the system the will affect the database, so I probably didn't prepare properly for the install. I should have backed-up and read up some more.

Douw

So I got mythweb to work as follows:

It gave an error:
Code:
Fatal Error at /var/www/html/mythweb/objects/Database/Query/mysql.php, line 83:
SQL Error: Table 'mythweb_sessions' already exists [#1050]

I found a thread about mythdora: http://www.mythdora.com/?q=node/3249 and used the sugested commands;
Code:
mysql -umythtv -p mythconverg

Enter the Password

then type

DROP TABLE mythweb_sessions;

to remove the mythweb_sessions table. After that it works fine.

It took me a little while to figure out how to get NFS running on the R6 slave. Arch uses BSD-style init as opposed to sysvinit, a few hours ago I didn't even know there was diferent ways to handle init, I must realy read-up on linux basics someday.

For any other laypeople like me, it basicaly means that update-rc.d does not exist on LinHes. To get a service to run at startup you can use some scripts included in LinHes:
Code:
add_service.sh servicename
#and
remove_service.sh servicename

To start or stop services manually you use the sv command, the whole thing is actualy much simpler than sysvinit.

I found the following resources helpfull:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=view/R5.5%2FR6.x+Differences+Table+and+Equivalent+Commands
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19573&start=2

So for multiple machine setups, follow cecil's LiHes guide on the mythweb landing page on your machine. But for a R6 machine, substitute the update-rc.d commands with equivalents distilled from the above info.

I don't give exact details of what I did because I believe people should figure some stuff out for themseleves. If someone finds this post usefull but but not helpfull enough, post and I will expand on the steps that I took.

KnoppMyth > Installation isn't meant to be used as a blog on how you did your install. I appreciate your posts, however it just doesn't belong in here. If you want to share your R6 adventures, when you can post in Usage/Howto.
