I have had knoppmyth running previously (a couple revs ago) on a system I built modeled on the Dragon. It uses an Intel DG965WH motherboard.

For the previous version or two, and now including R6, I can't get it to install. The splashscreen comes up and starts the install from CD, then it looks like it suddenly can't find the PATA CD-ROM drive or the SATA hard drive.

In previous versions I tried both the dragon option and the intel-fix option. It didn't help. According to Intel, I should set my HD in the BIOS to AHCI (with a SATA drive). This works fine with the existing old version of knoppmyth.

So... now with R6, I get the following... it boots from the CD to the splash screen and begins installing. The install quickly fails with this:

(I have no way to capture the screen, so excuse the abbreviations)

EXT2-fs: sda1: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (4).
... not /dev/sda1
... not /dev/sda2
EXT-fs warning (device sda3): ext_fill_super: mounting ext3 filesystem as ext2
... /dev/sda3 mounted but no 'larch/larchboot' found
:: Searching for USB CD ROMS ..
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=68, limit=4
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16
... not /dev/sr0

This repeats then eventually says:
ERROR: Sorry, couldn't find boot medium ...

According to Intel tech support, you need to use the following options when installing linux:

- Use the boot parameter: all-generic-ide

- use the boot parameter: pci=nommconf

But I don't see how I can enter them??h

Any ideas? I'd REALLY like to make my system work with a new rev!

Good luck with your problem. R6 does not seem to support the ability to interrupt the cd grub boot and add parameters. I couldn't get it to install either, and have had no answers to this thread.

Not exactly the same problem but the same symptom that you can't install it. I tried to install Arch, and was able to interrupt the boot and add additional parms but still could not even get a standalone ARCH to install.

I have not tried with 6.00.08, but I thought you could press <TAB> and edit the kernel boot parameters. See the comments made by Cecil here regarding an unrelated issue.

Wish I had known that a month ago.

I tried the method used by Arch. E, to edit and then press 'B' to boot.

Any suggestions on which options to try?

If you're using R6 (GRUB) you can simply string them together. I dunno about R5.5 (LILO) but I would think the same would apply. Example /boot/grub/menu.lst from my Arch box using bootchart:

Code:
title  Arch Linux
root   (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdb1 ro quiet vga=773 init=/sbin/bootchartd
initrd /boot/kernel26.img
