I have had a successful R5.5 install running since it's release and had amassed over 250 gig of recordings we would like to hang onto. Last night the motherboard in the system failed following a lightning strike that travelled up the phone line, via the ADSL router and into the PC through it's Ethernet port.

One motherboard / CPU / RAM later and I have a computer back up and running, but of course it wont boot off the old disk with all the hardware changes. I have test installed R6.0 on another (smaller) disk in the system and have verified that all is ok, but I would dearly love to restore the database and recordings on the old disk. Is it possible to install either R5.5 or R6 back on the old disk and import the old database / recordings when I don't have a backup to work from?

Thanks - Pat

Yes. See the Disaster Recovery pages on the wiki. If your disk is intact you should be able to use an install CD as a Rescue Disk and make a backup.
