Post subject:  Failure of R6.0.9 to install - MySQL issue?

I'm trying to install R6.0.9 from a CD to a second drive on my Mythbox, but the install process is dying for some reason related to the MySQL config:

Code:
Error 1064(42000) at Line 1: you have an error in your SQL syntax; Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[i]DNS server IP     DNS server IP[/i]' ', hostname="larch5" ' at Line 1

I paid particular attention to the location of the quotation marks (both single and double), is the single quote ahead of the comma preceeding "hostname" supposed to follow that comma?

PS - this little exercise all started because for the life of me, I can't get the digital side of my HVR-1600 to reliably record. I've followed all the online instructions how to compile and install the driver for that card, but no matter what I do, digital recordings (both SD and HD from unencrypted QAM) suffer artifacts, dropouts, and stutter. The last time I tried to compile the latest driver, there are some headers the code is looking for in the kernel that just aren't there in 2.6.23. If anyone can walk me through or point to a HOWTO on how to replace the kernel in R5.5 with one compatible with the v4l-dvb drivers, that'll serve my immediate needs. I want to record HD, currently stuck with analog...

That error would not cause any problems with the install. However it should be taken care of.
Please post /tmp/dhcpinfo.*

Post subject:  Long post - involves four reboots

First, let me describe my network: integrated cable modem/wireless router/wired router (on x.x.0.1); however, since the integrated box only has one wired ethernet port, I plumb that into a second 4-port router (IP address from the modem side set to x.x.0.2, rebroadcasting on x.x.15.1). I had wanted a single networking hub - however the second router is required for Vonage, the first router at least integrates a modem and wireless router into one box...

My R5.5 Myth system is configured with an .11g card, with its IP address set to be x.x.0.6. There is no hardwire running to my box normally - I've strung the longest CAT5 cable I have from my Vonage router to my Myth system for the install (why will become apparent eventually). Unfortunately, I don't have a CAT5 long enough to string straight into the cable modem/router box, which may solve this mess.

Reboot #1: insert LinHES 6.0.9 install CD, ask Knoppmyth R5.5 to reboot via screen commands.
Select LinHES (default) from the splash screen
Select F2 (verbose mode) when presented with that option
(ed note) "installing the initial database" seems to take a long time
the screen flashes through the error messages described above
settles on a black screen with a single underline cursor, not flashing
CD light goes out, audibly spins down
Can't ping the machine, can't ssh into it

Reboot #2: push the restart button on the face of my box
Select LinHES "without splash" this time
(ed note) seems to take a long time after "adding mysql user" is reported as DONE, but the CD light comes back on and things start again.
Things flip buy quickly - whole bunch of red FAIL warnings. As far as I can tell: D-BUS System messagebuss fail, acpid fail, Hardware Abstraction fail.
System goes into a repeated cycle of trying to stop MySQL (fail) and immediately start MySQL (fail).

Reboot #3: push & hold the shutdown button on the face of my box.
Select LinHES "without spash" again
(ed note) seems to take a long time again at "installing initial mysql database"
Note:
setting database value HostGWeth0 to x.x.15.1
HostDNSeth0 to x.x.0.1 then the addresses of the two DNS servers from my ISP
ath0 broadcasting for lease
ath0 offered x.x.0.6
Setting database value HostIPath0 to x.x.0.6
Setting database value HostNETMASKath0 to /24 255.255.255.0
Setting database value HostDNSath0 to (numbers as shown in original post)

System reports original error as shown above

Hit return to get a command prompt
I can't ping, I can't ssh, I can't sftp out of the computer. Is the gateway not set? Hooking a laptop into the x.x.15.1 router, from the laptop (using Cygwin) I can't ping the Myth system, can't ssh into it either.

Post subject:  Final boot - unplug ethernet cable first, then hard boot

Reboot #4: unplug ethernet cable first, then hard boot

Select no splash screen option again
After the machine reports 'checking for remote'
Code:
dhcpd: version 5.0.7 starting
dhcpd: eth0 broadcasting for lease
dhcpd: sending DHCP_DISCOVER (xid 0x5fcc968a) next in 3.06 sec
dhcpd: carrier lost
dhcpd: executing '/usr/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd_run_hooks', reason NO_CARRIER

proceeds a little further on, then the machine hangs at
Code:
will use nVidia
installing current nvidia drivers

dumps me out to a prompt when I hit return. And this is why I'm strapping an ethernet cable halfway across the house - it seems the installer presupposes a wired ethernet connection (as opposed to a wireless connection), and won't proceed unless it can grab drivers for my video card across the wire.

Any help appreciated. Two kids, both under three, neither has any concept of commercials, or TV schedules thanks to R5.5. Can't take the box out of production - have two hard drives, my hope is I can get R6 installed on the second drive during nap time one day, configure it during subsequent nap times, and get R6 into production that way.

Thanks
Latz

The information posted in the first post does not match what was in the .info files.

Do the info files really contain "as provided by the modem"?
Did the error msg really say "DNS server IP" ?

if the answer is no to either one of those I can't help you.

Code:

new_domain_servers='209.18.47.61  209.18.47.62'

My intention in saying "as provided by the modem" was to convey that even though I am bootstrapping my network through an interim router, the Myth system still seems to be connecting to the cable modem, and obtaining the information it sends. Sorry for the confusion

For what it's worth the network errors should have nothing todo with X not starting.
Have you tried forcing VESA from the boot menu.

With the contents of what was in the file, I can now fix the error.
Thank you.

Post subject:

And to be clear, in the original post, the error would be:

Code:
Error 1064(42000) at Line 1: you have an error in your SQL syntax; Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '209.18.47.61  209.18.47.62' ', hostname="larch5" ' at Line 1

Have not tried forcing VESA because it seems that there is an error in how SQL is being set up, as suggested by both the error above, and the fact that in my initial boot, things hung shortly after the boot process attempted to install the initial database (I presumed this was the initial MySQL database).

Do you have enough information to proceed with the fix?
