Today I decided to do an auto update of my R5.5 install. Everything looked to going well until I came to reboot the system at the end of the installation. For some reason I just get a screen full of 99s and then nothing happens. Has anyone else encountered these problems? Not sure what I can do other than attempt to roll back the install to R5.

Thanks

Adam

Just a quick update, after lots of googling it appears to be something with grub not running correctly. I've done lots of things to try and fix the problem but have had no success :(. So I've moved back to R5.5.

The problem is that lilo was installed and then grub did not install properly:

You could try to install again.

If that doesn't work, you can try a linux rescue CD-ROM and try to run the grub-install program in that environment. If it doesn't work, you may at least get some type of error message.

Hi bobmyth,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late reply back I've been away all week. I spent some time trying to get the grub-install to work but what ever I tried seemed to fail with different error messages. I'm beginning to wonder if my harddisk isnt very happy....

Cheers

Adam
