First I do a backup in R5.5
Then I boot from the R6 CD and then select upgrade. When the upgrade completes and I have rebooted into LinHES, do I go into the Service Menu and select Restore Linhes?

Or has this already been taken care of during the upgrade from booting the CD because I selected upgrade and not install?

Do I need to exclude xorg.conf from the upgrade or is this done automatically when upgrading from R5.5 to R6?

Thanks

I've got some skeletal upgrade info posted here: http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20302

No full blown R6 Hints document yet because real life has been been beating me black and blue and I haven't upgraded the production box.

Ok, I've got the skinny. If you've done a backup in R5.5 before shutting it down, you should select upgrade after booting the R6 CD. Once R6 is installed, don't do a restore. That has been taken care of by the previously selected upgrade.

The R5.5 xorg.conf is not fully compatible with R6 and the above process will not put the R5.5 xorg.conf into R6. R6 creates a new one.

For my particular configuration, copying Section "Monitor", Section "Device" and Section "Screen", in there entirety, over the the same sections in the R6 xorg.conf was all that was needed to get my functionality back.

Thanks to Cesman et al.
