I am having trouble installing R5.5. I previously installed and used Knoppmyth for a few months but then had a failure. I tried to reinstall but kept having odd failures during the install. I kept seeing I/O errors and finally concluded that I had a hard drive problem, so I replaced the hard drive and tried to install again. I get to the copying files stage and then I get the following message:

Code:

then it continues copying files and seems to install but then hangs

I had to hand copy the above output, but I think it is all correct.

What is device cloop0? Could my CD/DVD be bad?

Thanks for the quick response. I burned another copy on different batch of CD's and I get the same errors.

Is it safe to assume the CD/DVD is bad? What is device cloop0?

Wait a minute, I just thought of something. I have the CD/DVD drive as the slave and the HDD as the master on a single IDE cable. Could that be an issue? Normally I wouldn't share the cable, but my motherboard has only 1 IDE plug and I was trying to avoid using a SATA HDD.

Double check the hd jumper setting, and check the bios settings for UDMA access. Sometimes the master HD setting tells it that it's the ONLY drive on the wire. Is the cable an 80/40 wire version? Most newer systems want an 80 wire IDE cable, and will downgrade access speed if they find a 40 wire version.

Got another CD drive to plug in temporally?

I am using 80 wire (HDD) IDE cable. I have HDD as Master, CD/DVD as slave. But there seems to be something else going on. I pulled the CD/DVD and created a bootable flashdrive with the Knoppmyth iso on it and booted from the flashdrive. The install started and the same error occurred. I have changed hard drives, burnt new CD's from freshly downloaded .iso file, changed IDE cables. stuill gewtting the following errors (this is only a snippet of the error message - full error message shows in my original post)

Code:
cloop: zlib decompression error -3 uncompressing block 1076 65536/65536/27111/0 19294605-19321716
cloop: zlib decompression error -3 uncompressing block 1076 65536/65536/27111/0 19294605-19321716
cloop: zlib decompression error -3 uncompressing block 1076 65536/65536/27111/0 19294605-19321716

What do I do now?
