On my FE machine, I'm only able to get to the yellow LinHES background; the setup doesn't start. What is the command to manually start it once I'm in X? I'm assuming that when I do this from a shell, I'll be able to see some debug info.

Thanks!

Alt-x will bring up an xterm. Alt-m will start mythfrontend. There are other keys defined in .fluxbox/keys.

Here is a snippit:
Code:
Mod1 x :ExecCommand xterm -fn *18*
Mod1 s :ExecCommand sudo taskset -c 0 mythtv-setup
Mod1 m :ExecCommand mythfrontend --logfile /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log
Mod1 1 :ExecCommand sudo sv start mythbackend
Mod1 2 :ExecCommand sudo sv stop mythbackend
Mod1 3 :ExecCommand sudo sv restart mythbackend
Mod1 h :ExecCommand MythVantage -h
Mod1 Control u :ExecCommand /usr/LH/bin/unclutter-toggle.sh

That last one will toggle the invisibility of the mouse which is handy sometimes.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm trying to load R6 onto a new box that will become a FE. I need to start the LinHES installer script so I can see some debug info as to why it didn't auto start.

The application is "MythVantage". In a finished installation it's in /usr/MythVantage/bin/ -- I don't know where it would be before then.

Is MythVantage open source? I can't seem to find any docs on it.

Well, I'm not too certain. The mythvantage website has f/a information on it, and there hasn't been any info released here about it, except that LinHES now uses it.

I imagine it is, because I doubt anyone would write or anyone would pay for a tool as specialized as MythVantage is. Probably the best way to categorize it is "Open Source/Obscuritas"

Well, I think the problem is that my CPU is too old. When I'm at the desktop after booting the R6 CDROM as described above, if I attempt to run mythvantage manually I get:

Code:
NVIDIA OpenGL Driver requires CPUs with SSE to run.

The current CPU does not support SSE

The CPU is an Athlon Classic 800 MHz. OLD! R5.5 runs just fine w/ it though.

Sounds like your X session is using the NVidia drivers? Can you configure it to use the default drivers?

Also, if that doesn't help you can run the scripts that do the installation manually. I mentioned the command line options for that in another thread.

Memory says that R6 is compiled for newer CPUs. Your old Athlon may simply not be compatible.

If that were the case, wouldn't the installer boot me out before it even loaded larch though? I accidentally used my x86_64 CD in an old PC before and it refused to even load after the Grub screen displaying an error message about the CPU architecture. I think the Athlon thunderbird is actually an i686 class, just one lacking SSE.

EDIT: according the the gentoo wiki, it is an i686.

No to the first point, and since it's specifically complaining about SSE instructions I'm guessing that there was some lag in that area.

The source is available here:
http://linhes.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/LinHES- ... ythinstall
Because of the ui changes with mythtv 0.22 this needs to be updated and that is being done here:
http://linhes.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/LinHES- ... install-22
It is tightly coupled to the scripts in this package:
http://linhes.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/LinHES- ... HES-config
