Will this work? Connecting a VGA to RCA cable between an onboard graphics module and the television? |

I guess more info wouldn't hurt. This is the project concept: ASUS MES-N NLX motherboard (these have a riser card and take up very little space). Celeron 733MHz @ 1.15GHz 256MB Crucial PC-100 SDRAM 80GB WD HD 8MB onboard video SB Live! Leadtek 2000 whatever, the thing everyone buys from Newegg. An old-er DVD drive of some sort Floppy drive USB -> 802.11b I plan to have this machine encode to mpeg2 only, I have another computer that is kinda like a toy and is a dual processor setup that will do encoding to mpeg4 after, then transfer back and remove the original mpeg2 file. This computer is extremely small and looks like a VCR so the case was one of the key factors to why I'm restricting myself on this hardware. I've checked with people and it should be able to handle all the mpeg2 encoding and watching at the same time without any trouble so I'm not worried there, I just have concerns about the quality of a VGA to RCA conversion right in the cable...also worried about a few people discussing killing televisions with resolution changes... [ edit ] Also of note, the onboard video ram is not shared, it has dedicated ram on the motherboard. It's a SiS 620 AGPset chipset with "built in 6326 AGP 2x graphics controller" |

I suppose the cable will work...That is what it was desgined for. You'll want to ensure your sync rates are safe for your TV. cesman |

I am not sure I understand. If I do, I don't think it will work. An RCA cable is red,white and yellow (right?). RCA: Red -> audio White -> Audio Yellow -> combined video in the form of Chrominance/Luminance. VGA Cable: Red -> Red video Blue -> Blue Video Green -> Green Video Sync(s) -> sync info (horizontal and vertical) Blanking -> may be piggy backed onto RGB like RCA I don't know of a cable that will perform this conversion. A "box" that will do it is usually $50 to $100 US dollars. I have no idea of how good it is. I wonder. It is not as easy as it sounds. Not impossible, just not trivial. Paul |

Oh, and follow cesman's advice on sync rates as well ! |
