ok, im in the uk and trying to install a nova-t pci dvb card iv followed the 2 guides at http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html and http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1357 as best i could but in still having a couple of probs the first is how do i get the dvb modules to load at startup ? i believe i need to edit /etc/modules and/or etc/modules.conf but what do i need to put in ??

and the second is everytime i try to recompile mythtv it always says i need to recompile with dvb support, i think its down to the dvb drivers path i have the drivers installed in /usr/src/linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1/
and my settings.pro file reads:

INCLUDEPATH += /usr/src/linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1/linux/include

is this right ? i dont think it is anyone point me in the right direction

thanks

not sure about the compiling problems, but as for getting the modules to load you edit /etc/modules to make a module load on boot. as for any options or aliases that module needs those reside in the /etc/modules.conf , but you do not edit modules.conf directly. you need to edit or create a file in /etc/modutils/ then run update-modules.

ok i made a file in etc/modutils called 'dvb' it contained:

alias char-major-250 dvb-core
options dvb-core dvb_shutdown_timeout=0
add above dvb-core dvb-ttpci
add above dvb-ttpci tda1004x
add above saa7146 saa7146_vv ttpci-eeprom
add above dvb-ttpci dvb-ttpci-budget-ci

i ran update-modules and it returned the error:

depmod: /libmodules/2.4.25-chw/misc/dvb-ttpci-info.txt is not an ELF file

not quite sure if the info above is whats needed in the file any suggestions ?

thanks for the help btw

try moving the file it is complaning about and rerun the update-modules. that is a text file and really doesn't need to be in that location, although I'm not sure why it is a problem for it to be there. I would just move it off to some temp area and run update-modules again. I can't see how a .txt file would be needed, so it shouldn't hurt anything.

well a more acurate way to tell if the modules are loading would be lsmod.

right after many hours i can recompile myth but is till cant get the dvb modules to load on startup, the only way i can start them at the moment is /usr/src/linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1/build-2.4/./insmod.sh load

which works, but i have to stop/start the backend which is a pain

im sure the answer to my prob is simple and im just being a plank !!

help !!

did you add the modules you want to load to /etc/modules file? not the aliases and module options just the module name of the ones you want loaded on boot.

ok can you use modprobe to install them, if not then it won't load on boot, as that is what the boot process uses to load modules. If you get some sort of error when trying to use modprobe let us know what it is.
