Okay, I managed to get this to work before but can't remember how.

I have an avermedia remote, and as near as I can tell it needs lirc_gpio. So by default lirc_dev and lirc_i2c are used for the hauppage? I can't seem to fidn the lirc_gpio module, not can I load it. I tried to reinstall lirc, by doing an apt-get install, it let me run the setup script the first time, but I think I just complicated things by installing two versions of lirc. dpkg says 0.6.6-7 is installed, although the log says it's 7.0 pre 2.

Can anyone give me a hand on how to get lirc_gpio installed? The module doesn't exist if I do a modprobe -l.

yes by default only the modules for the hauppage remote are installed. you will have to recompile lirc to get the modules you need. there are instructions somewhere on the forums.
