I've just installed KnoppMyth R4v4.1 on a box with a Hauppauge PVR-350, and I'm having trouble getting TV to work: when I select "Watch TV" in MythTV, I get a black screen for a few seconds, then it exits. When I run xawtv in a shell, I (sometimes) get a second or so of noise when I change channels, then a black window.

Normally, I'd suspect misconfigured devices. But when I run 'mplayer /dev/video0', it shows the video correctly. So presumably the problem lies closer to xawtv than to the devices.

Here's what 'lspci -v' has to say about the PVR-350:
Code:
00:0a.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 4000
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 12
        Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

I'm running xawtv 3.88, off of the KnoppMyth R4v4.1 CD. I tried building 3.94, but that didn't seem to fix anything.

I saw that some people have been told to try moving the PVR to a different PCI slot. Unfortunately, this isn't an option for me: this is a bare-bones machine with only one PCI slot.

I don't have bttv loaded, since 'modprobe bttv' complains that
Code:
/lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/v4l2/bttv.o: init_module: No such device

Then again, since /dev/video0 is giving me a signal, perhaps I don't need it. Or do I?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Because it seemed the best place to post it. Why do you ask?

At any rate, I've found the answer elsewhere: xawtv can't deal with MPEG input.

I ask because this isn't a KnoppMyth installation issue. KnoppMyth ->Installation is for KnoppMyth related installation issues and questions. A search of the forum would have yield the answer.

It isn't? It seems related to getting KnoppMyth installed and running. Where would you have put it?

Seems like KnoppMyth related question to me.

Where? I just searched for "xawtv mplayer pvr" and only got this thread. A search for "xawtv mplayer" found a bunch of threads, with one possible hint at a solution... in "Installation"

It isn't. Don't like. Don't use it.
