Post subject: | QServerSocket: Failed to bind . . . |
I was able to get through the entire install including the Nvidia driver and XMLTV install, as well as getting the TV listings.. Myth more or less works because I can play a game (with sound), get Newsupdates, and get Mythweather info. I exited Myth and ran mythtv-setup and configured it as follows: Channel Freq table: us-cable (the initial install) Channel Freq table: us-cable-hrc (after manually running mythsetup) Video Devices: /dev/video (the initial install) Video Devices: /dev/video0 (after manually running mythsetup a second time) Here is the output I get when running mythbackend: Starting up as the master server 2003-12-06 09:07:25 Enabled verbose msgs: important general QServerSocket: failed to bind or listen to the socket Failed to bind port: 6543 Current status: When I run mythfrontend to actually watch tv, I get a black screen that does a quick flicker to blue and then returns to black. So, now I have a computer that sends me up to date weather info and I can play Penguin olympics. Progress is slow . . . thanks from the Linux newb, George |

What type of tuner do you have? Perhaps you need to tell the module... Here is example:http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31 |

Do you have the input set as Tuner 0? Double check in mythtv-setup and restart the backend. Status? What is in the log(/var/log/mythtv/)? With the frontend running open a tty(<ctrl><alt><f1>), are you getting any messages? |

I thought I needed to set the input to Composite0 since I had a coax in connection. Why Tuner0? Oh well, whatever works. Regarding running mythbackend: I still get the same failed to bind port error, but it still works. Now, all I need is some sound and a way to change the channel on my DirectTV connnection. Will get back regarding status. |

If you are hooking up the coax to the card the you are using the cards tuner. You'll need an IRBlaster or build a transmitter to change the channel on your box. |

I have Video, I have sound! Knoppmyth is the way to go for newbies. Next task is to get myth to change my DirectTV so I can program it to change channels and record the appropriate programs. Two keys to getting sound after you have video: 1. Before running mythbackend at the shell prompt, type: test_ioctl -y mute=0 2. Also, run alsamixer At the shell prompt to ensure the volume is up and nothing is muted. Make sure all channels/options don't have an MM at the top. If so, press the "M" key so that the mute is off (the "MM" should disappear). Does it matter what dsp setting is selected on the capture device option in mythtv-setup? I have mine at dsp (vs dsp0 or dsp1 etc) Thanks a ton to Cecil for getting Knoppmyth developed!! ![]() Time I took getting mythtv up and running on RH9.0 2 weeks Success: 0.003^4 Time I took to get Knoppmyth up and running 1 night plus a few hours on Saturday. Success: 1.00 |

if you are using a pvr card it doesn not matter what dsp device as the pvr cards don't use the sound card to capture the sound. |
