I recently bought two identical Dell machines for use as myth MBE and SBE. Right now both are set up on a KVM to the same monitor.

On one I installed a Haupage 250 and Soundblaster live.
I can watch TV just fine.

On the other I installed a pcHDTV 2000. and Soundblaster live.
I recompiled the pcHDTV kernel under /usr/src/debs and set up the channels.

I can hear audio and change channels. I can record shows and see
the "live preview" but when I try to watch TV or recordings all I get
is a blue screen where the image should be.

The default graphics card appears to be an intel i810 on an Brookdale-G 82845G/GL Chipset.

Would a new (different) graphics card help? These machines don't
have any external AGP, just PCI. Is there a good PCI graphics card for
myth?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Enone

Out of curiousity, did you RECOMPILE the pcHDTV kernel, or uncompress the kernel that cesman provided in /usr/src/debs?

Most folks here seem to like nVidia GeForce 4 MX or better cards. I've been using one that was built into my motherboard. I'm not getting perfect results yet, but I'm working through the issues one by one. Expect to see a "how to" regarding HDTV use on the wiki when I get it working well. There's already a nice how-to there on HDTV modelines, as well as a wealth of other info.

What monitor are you planning to use? Is it native 720p or 1080i? I'm using a rear-projection set with 1080i input at this time.

Actually I uncompressed the kernel that cesman provided in /usr/src/debs

The current monitor is an old 10" running at 800x600.

The display will eventually be a DLP projector with a native resolution
of 1024x768.

I previously had HDTV displaying fine (on current monitor) using the uncompress pcHDTV kernel from R4V4 however, that system was too slow (P3 800MHz) and couldn't really play the video back at all. That machine used an non-motherboard based AGP card (which unfortunately the new machines don't have).

Googling for:
site:mythtv.org blue screen

I find related threads that talk about:

Quote:
I was experiencing an annoying conflict between the marvel drivers and the
xvideo output mode of mplayer. This conflict causes mplayer to only show a
blue screen if it is run after xawtv is used.

but I'm not sure if/how that applies to my situation.

Thanks,

Enone

After a little more investigation it does appear to be some affected by
the "i810" XFree86 driver. Using an GeForce MX 4400 PCI card, the picture
shows up (although does stutter, even with the XFree86 "nvidia" driver).

Interestingly enough, shows from an Hauppauge 250 play just fine on the "i810" driver.
