Post subject:  PVR-350 - test_ioctl and losing settings on reboot or record

Hello,

My installation went fairly smoothly, but to watch TV I had to change my tuner type to 44 in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv (My PVR-350 is a 48132 Rev K168 if that helps anyone with their card). I also have to go to console and type:

/usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -u 0x3000 -p 4

to see TV in Myth. After changing that setting I can watch TV for hours, but as soon as I try to record anything or reboot the setting is lost . I only have the one tuner, so i can't watch TV while recording, but after recording I have to type the ioctl line again to see TV, and my recordings are all black screens as well.

This raises two questions:

1. How can I permanently make the configuration change so I don't have to go to console and manually set my input every time.

2. Why is this setting reverting to something else when I record (or will the answer to number 1 solve this problem as well)?

I tried adding a post-install line to my ivtv configuration in /etc/mythtv/modules but I either have it entered wrong or it is not solving the problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to take a stab at this one.

Post subject:  questions for you

Hi. When KnoppMyth booted up after the install and asked you to enter your administrative (root) password, it should have eventually launched a GUI where you configured your tuner card(s) and set up channel listings.

Did you select Tuner0 as the input for your PVR-350? I'm not 100% certain, but it seems that your test_ioctl command is saying "Hello, capture card. Please use Tuner0 now in NTSC mode." After that, it makes sense that watching TV would work.

Maybe the recording process is looking at the setting in MythTV that says what to use as input for your capture card, and it's trying to use what is probably the default answer on that setup screen.

And once you reboot, it'd certainly use what MythTV tells it to use for its input source, as opposed to what you told it on the command-line - until you tell it again on the command-line.

Thank you! That solves the problem.

I was using Composite0 instead of Tuner0 in my MythTV settings. I was ready to try compiling the latest CVS of IVTV.... I guess it just goes to show that the simple solutions should always be explored first.

Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. I have spent many hours searching for an answer to this problem.
