On my system I can change the time zone, say yes, then it take me back to the time zone menu without any change.

After the format and the install, two blue lines of the (ncurses?) screen are displayed, and caps and scroll lock keys flash in a kernel panic.

Nothing is installed to the MBR, and it's not due to BIOS virus protection.

The ISO MD5's OK and the burn is good.

I haven't another system to test this in (yet). Are these known problems? Where can I get the logs produced by the failed install from, to see what's happening?

maybe you should search the forums to see if they are known issues, maybe search for blink keyboard.

I am having the exact same problem. I get through all of the questions on Auto Install and at 85% complete on the copy process it loses part of the display and the Caps and Scroll lock start to blink.

Hardware config:
AMD K6-300 MHz
192MB RAM
13 GB Western Digital HDD
HP CD burner
Generic i740 AGP Video card
SoundBlaster 16
10bT card (Via Chip-Unknown mfg) tried with Nic removed and same result

I saw the earlier post, I just didn't realize it was an "answer". I did search but the only things I found were problems on systems that were already installed. Some people had problems with their NICs which is why I tried without it. Others had BIOS issues but mine is up to date and I have disabled all power management. I guess I will try a full distro and then install myth.

This is a known problem, I believe cecil blamed it on the kernel last time. It happens sometimes when the system is rebooting. Try unpluging your network cable until the front-end starts coming up. It is the only workaround I know. Then buy a UPS so you don't have to reboot or it doesn't get stuck like that during a brown out.

I'll tell you what I had to do since this sounds similar to mine. The screen blanks out during the install about 85%through (like a screensaver kicking in) if you touch any key it will fail. So don't touch any key and let it sit for 10 or 20 mins to be sure its done and touch a key and came up saying installation complete and everything works ok. Otherwise if you didn't let it set and finish installation it will fail and you'll get the blinking keyboard lights.

Another tip -- use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. My system goes into a kernel panic if I try to use USB peripherals. I could get it working with a USB mouse but a USB keyboard kills it every time.
