fdisk -l /dev/hda yields:

ide-scsi: hda: unsupported command in queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda), sector 0
...and so on for sectors 2, 4, and 6.

Doing a manual install my option for partitioning is only /dev/hdc (?!).

Regular Knoppix boots OK and mounts the drive correctly.

Any ideas? Thanks.

-Dave

If your only option is /dev/hdc then you probably have the drive physically connected as the secondary master.

Yes, of course, that's it; misread the legend on the motherboard. Thanks, Xsecrets!
