Can you install mythTV on the PC without TV/capture card? I just want to use it to play my DVD and DivX files.

Yes, you can but, when you start the frontend it may crap out because "nothing is in the database". Why not just use MPlayer? or Xine?

I like "Rip DVD" option, thats why. I got frontend running but DVD doesn't play and rip DVD doesn't work

That is because "there is nothing in the database, this isn't going to work". Basically the backend is complaining about not having a program listing. In the past, I've seen it affect watching TV(don't know what all it affects). I suppose you can fake it as go thru all the setup steps, but I've never done that....
