Post subject:  Problems installing with (almost Reference) hardware....

Hi,

First my hardware

Case: Antec Aria PC 300W
Mother Board: Chaintech 7nif2
Processor: AMD 462 Sempron 2200
Memory: 512M PC2700 DDR
Hard Drive: WD 7200 200Gig (ide)
DVD: DL Lite-On 1633S +- R RW
TV Card: Hauppauge PVR 250 (980)
Video Card: Asus V9400/TD/64/AR (MX4000)
Audio: SoundBlaster 7.1

I had a different mobo and the wintv go, and had less than stellar luck and decided to go with the chaintech and the pvr 250.

I get the 4.5 cd to load and it seems to find everything, (though it doesn't seem to recognise the video card....) and ask the beginning questions.
I use autoinstall and it formats the drive and starts copying files.
It gets to nearly complete, then freezes in the screen says KnoppMyth Installation and is partly blue (doesn't even finish drawing the screen, and the blinky light problem happens, even when the network cable is un plugged.

Any ideas?

While the installer is running, press the shift key every few minutes.

You were absolutely right about that, the 'screen saver' was the problem.

Oh, and Xsecrets,...

Because the last mother board did the shared video thing, I assumed the on board video wasn't up to snuff.. I can certainly take it out. to see if it will help.

BTW , system now freezes when it gets to the root password just after rebooting. I can't get the keyboard or mouse recognised....

I'll look for other posts, but does that sound familier?

thanks in advance....

Let me guess, USB keyboard and/or mouse?

Known problem. The cure for now is to avoid them. If you have PS2 adapters for them use 'em. Otherwise it's probably time for a new PS@ keyboard and/or mouse.

Oh how right you are...

my next problem is that for some reason, my backend won't start up. I'm getting tired of re-installing 4 times an evening. trying to debug the problems...

It tells me the proper port isn't listening or something like that. I'll get the actual message and post it tomorrow. but I haven't changed any of the defaults.... sigh... I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I finally get it working...

thanks again to everyone for their tips!
PS If I haven't mentioned it yet, I took out the extra video card. Once I get things working I'll add it back in to free up a little ram.

<this is now working... after a re-install, but now the mouse won't work)
one thing after a *&#(@* nother! --sigh... only a couple weeks to Mardi Gras.... think happy thoughts.... (GRIN)

On to the next problem... I now have the CD working it will rip mp3s. But it seems to be ripping in real time. (OUCH!)
Any idea if there is a setting for what speed the drive will run at?

Post subject:  Newer problems with CDs, IR remote, and tuner card.

Can't get the IR remote Gray Hauppauge (PVR-250) remote to work. Yes I have installed with the l option. so I'm not sure what's up.

CD ripping seems to be in real time. Not sure what to do to speed it up.

and I can't get anything but static on the tuner card. (which I currently have hooked up to a vcr playing a tape.) No internet connection near the actual tv. will address that later.

It did rip a DVD a beautiful copy of Norah Jones in New Orleans.... :P

do some searches for pvr250 grey remote and static. you probably have one of the newer pvr250's and will need to update ivtv, and possibly do some stuff to get the new remote working if you have the new style grey remote.
