I've done the install step for step, but I swear I'm missing something somewhere. My specs are: P4 1.7 512 megs RAMBUS 40G maxtor 7200 rpm nVIDIA 5200 128 meg /w tv out SB live! value Hauppage 250 some POS NIC Anyways, setup and install seemed to go OK, but upon starting everything up to it out, my "watch tv turns" up a blank screen. Doing a cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg turns up a weird blank file that seems to crash mplayer, and also winamp on my windows box when i ftp it over. After I hit ESC at the blank screen on watching tv, this is the output I get: root@mythtv:/home/mythtv# mythfrontend Registering Internal as media playback plugin. Registering MythDVD DVD Media Handler as a media handler Registering MythDVD VCD Media Handler as a media handler Registering MythMusic Media Handler as a media handler Mediamonitor: Adding /dev/cdrom Mediamonitor: Adding /dev/dvd Starting media monitor. if you have television it is not being recognized as an mpeg2 device. ivtv drivers have tuner0 v4l(software) devices and pchdtv3000 devices have television. |

I don't quite understand. Are you saying that my install failed to recognize my tuner card as a valid mpg device? Or that I should be using the svideo for my input instead of the tuner0 as I don't need it to change channels? I'm pretty new at this. |

PhileDealer my comment was aimed at xtopher who said he was not even seeing a tuner0. My two big questions for you would be 1) have you upgraded the ivtv drivers, if not see 2., and 2) have you searched for blank screen? |

Funny, I checked out the ol' myth box in order to assist you, and found a blank screen on my live tv as well! (I still use tivo for live tv, havent fully made the leap yet) Anyway, turns out the backend had crashed. This seems to be happening more often on my system lately. To check just exit mythtv, open an xterm, su to root, and run Code: ps -u mythtv mythbackend should be list there. if not, run Code: mythbackend & worked for me...If that didn't help, try the following: blank screen with sound: Code: del /dev/fb0autodetect
del /dev/fb1 mknod /dev/fb1 c 29 1 chmod 666 /dev/fb1 chown mythtv /dev/fb1 Blank screen, no sound: it may be that your simply on the wrong input. makde sure your video input defaults to tuner0 in mythsetup. hope that helps, --scott |
