Post subject:  Dark screen after install

I have now tried to install both R4V5 and R5A10 with various parameters at the spash screen boot promt:
1) "" (blank)
2) knoppix alsa screen="800x600"
3) knoppix alsa screen="640x480"

In all cases installation goes fine, the system reboots, but when starting up again reaching the "gdm" line, the screen powers down. I can get a term screen with ctrl+alt+F2, but I do not quite understand what values I could possibly type into XFConfig-4 that could get my screen to work when 640x480 doesn't ???

those options you just described have nothing to do with what resolution comes up once the install is complete and you reboot.

I'm guessing you are outputting on a TV? if so from that console prompt edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and make horz refresh 30-50 vert refresh 60 then run /etc/init.d/gdm restart

No in fact I run it on a PC-monitor. I have just tried to re-install using another monitor, and this worked. Strange why Monitor 1 showed black screen (TFT 1024 x 768?? The one that worked was another TFT with a little higher resolution, and I wold certainly like to know how I could get monitor 1 to function.

I've seen this when installing to a system hooked up to a TV. The video card is nVidia 440. <ctrl><alt><f1> and install the nvidia drivers.

:D Nevermind fixed it by commenting out all but lowest hsync and vsync in xf86config-4
