Post subject:  DVD Problem - possibly with ide-scsi

Hello all, Linux-newbie/Myth-newbie Steve here.

Installed Knoppmyth last week and the install ran quite smoothly, a few prompts answered, away it went, and before long I had the Myth frontend staring me in the face.

However, I'm "filling in the blanks" now with bits that aren't working as they should, and this morning's project is the DVD burner - I can import an audio CD just fine, but I can neither import nor play a DVD - when I attempt to, Myth locks up and switching to console 1 (Alt-F1) shows an endless rapid scroll of some sort of I/O buffer error - so fast that I cannot read it easily.

/var/log/messages seems to show the drive loaded OK, but there are other errors and I'm not sure they're related:

mythtv kernel: ide-scsi is deprecated for cd burning! Use ide-cd and give dev=/dev/hdX as device

and later on, a whole slew of:

JEDEC: Found no ichxrom device at location zero
CFI: Found no ichxrom device at location zero

Am I looking at the right place to try and find a solution? Seaches of the forum here and at mythtv.org, as well as a Google run for "JEDEC" and "CFI" (and the full error string) haven't gotten me anywhere.

Many thanks for any help y'all can provide!!

you do realize that knoppmyth does not come with the proper libraries to play/rip encrypted dvds (99.99% of store bought dvd's) by default for legal reasons.

After reading replies to others' posts on precisely that subject, I am stunned and disappointed that I didn't put 2 and 2 together.

Scratch that, not stunned - just disappointed.

I naturally ASSumed that it was a hardware sort of DVD/CD conflict, not a playback library problem. Will now pursue a resolution to my library issues. Many thanks for a kind response when a RTFM-style shot could have easily been warranted!
