I'm posting this partially to help others and partially in a bid for some help. I struggled with this most of the day yesterday and finally came up with a workable solution.

When I installed KnoppMyth R4 on my machine I managed to get the video working relatively easily (after adding an extra space in ZapListings.pm to make mythfilldatabase work per another post). However, I couldn't get any audio to capture or play back. I could play MP3s from the hard drive, but the captured video didn't have any sound. After a relatively long search on google, I finally found something that works. I put the following into a script and it works every time.

test_ioctl -v input=7,output=1
sleep 3
test_ioctl -v input=7,output=1

Running the first line alone makes the sound work until you change the channel. Then running the last part seems to make it work for every channel. The sleep is just to make sure that the second line doesn't interfere with the first, I suppose.

I've tried calling that script during startup and it doesn't work. It only seems to work after the front end has completely loaded. Does anyone have an idea for how to automatically run that sript when the front end finishes loading?

well there are several threads on this board about no sound with pvr250 that have solutions in them that have worked for other people. I have never experianced the no sound problem myself.

Just curious what input are you using? input 7 would be what svideo or something? cause the tuner is usually input 4.

I'm using the tuner input. I don't know how the inputs are mapped using test_ioctl. I just copied it off a thread that I came across and it worked.

I too had this problem... seemed to not like the KnoppMyth-run script. Try this:

Login as mythtv

vi .fvwm/.fvwm2rc

Comment out:
exec KnoppMyth-run

add the following line instead:
exec mythfrontend

reboot

Thanks, this also worked on my pvr-350!

I'm all set now. After days of hacking with the latest drivers and patches, etc. I'm ready to put the box to the test with some TV watching!

Glad it's working for. The credit really goes to cesman; he told me to do what I posted a few weeks ago when I had the same problem w/ my PVR-250.

This is what finally worked for me, too.
