Hi!
I'm trying to get KnoppMyth onto one of my computers to try it out before I buy the necessary hardware for a PVR.
Current hardware:
P2-350, 512MB, Matrox G200 gfx, _no_ TV-In or TV-Out, 3 hard drives (hda: 60GB, hdb: 46G, hdc 17G).
I'm thinking of an XP2500+ Barton, a PVR-250 and an MX440 in the computer when I use it for real should be nice and fast. I'm also thinking of getting an EPIA-M based frontend, or even better a Media-MVP once it can run as a frontend.
My progress so far:
First I run a manual install, trying to get 60G for /myth, and the rest on the 46G hard drive, but after partitioning I could not get further. Choosing Quit just put me back at the "1. Partition, 2. Quit" screen, and a brief error flashing on the bottom line (something about exec_proc or something like that).
So, I rebooted and ran the auto installation thinking 60G will be enough since I will not record anything. =)
But, it got to about 70% and then the screen went blank. This is normal since the computer had been idle X minutes, but I could not get out of it since my keyboard had stopped working! (Pressing Numlock/Capslock didn’t light the leds anymore). Very weird.
I rebooted and ran the auto installed again, this time pressing <shift> every 10%, so the screen wouldn’t blank and everything looked fine. It said “installation complete”, I pressed OK, the CD ejected and I rebooted. But, after rebooting I get nothing. After the bios is finished with the booting it just stops. No lilo, no grub, not even a “this is not a system disk”.
Next, I’ll try removing the 17GB and 46GB hard drives and doing the auto installation again to see if that helps.

I pulled the two smaller hard drives out, and now I could both install and boot. I got a very small xterm on a very large screen (19” blurry CRT), and everything worked fine until I got the (very beautiful) MythTV start screen. I can’t select anything, since the keyboard dies again (Numlock does nothing).
I’m attaching the hard drives again to see if I can’t boot and get them mounted...
*30 minutes later*
No problems at all, I’ve set up the 46GB as /myth2 and it still boots and everything.
However, this time the mouse died on me. I’ll continue configuring what I can via ssh. This might be a hardware issue. I’ve got another mouse and keyboard somewhere…

I cannot imagine you're going to enjoy the MythTV experience w/ a P2-350. I'd siggest trying LVM to combine the drives.

I'm going to use an XP2500 when I put the PVR-250 in, but until then I thought I’d check the interface out, and use it as a file server. I’ll probably buy a 120GB and scrap the older drives then.
About the installation, this is what I found:
1. It will not boot after auto installation if I have three hard drives. I removed one and it worked.
It did _not_ work with this configuration: Primary Master: 60GB, Primary Slave: 46GB, Secondary Master: 17GB, Secondary Slave: CD.
It _did _ work with this configuration: Primary Master: 60GB, Primary Slave: 46GB, Secondary Master: missing, Secondary Slave: CD.

In case this helps anybody else, I found similar issues.
I installed with Primary master 10G, primary slave 6G, secondary master CDROM and no secondary slave. Upon reboot, nothing happened at all after the BIOS completed.
Removed the primary slave, re-installed and now it boots OK.
