Hi, total BYOPVR n00b, and a little new to *nix's, by tech saavy so not too bad I hope...P.S.> I search for my error and didn't find anything on it.

Hardware: NForce2 Shuttle, AMD XP2000+, 512MB DDR Ram, CD-R/W, 60Gig HD (NTFS formatted).

Problem: After 'scan' mode, I choose a "resolution" (80x60, etc.) and I get an error:
Quote:
crc error
System Halted.

Some more info: I burned Release 5A12, since it is newer than the announced Release 5A10. Am I wrong to start with this version? I will try to download/burn R5A10 for fun, but was hoping R5A12 wouldn't give me problems.

Also, I am using a NTFS formatted drive (has old files I don't need anymore). Would this cause an issue? Should I reformat the drive before running KnoppMyth boot CD? If so, what app/command can I use?

Links, tutorials, or any post(s) on topic would be great, so I can read more, thanks.[/quote]

R5A12 should be fine. The NTFS drive is fine the install will partition, and format it for you. Just try again with the new disc and let us know if there are still problems. sounds like it may be a bad burn, also the first time the install stops you might want to type tv for the boot option then you shouldn't get that resolution menu thingy.

I've been reading the FAQ/Installation over and over. :(

1.) I get the KnoppMyth splash screen, and type tv.
2.) In white text is says, "You passed an undefined mode number. Press <RETURN> to see video modes available, <SPACE> to continue or wait 30 secs."
3.) Then if I wait it starts and says, "Uncompressing Linux..."
4.) Then finally I get that darn "crc error... System halted."

I burned as CD as slow as 32x, should I do 24x/12x? I doubted it at first, but now I'm willing to burn at any speed to get this to install. :P :)

Double check the md5sum on the ISO image you downloaded if you haven't already. A lot of install problems seem to go back to a bad burn however. Try a different brand of media, a slower speed, ... Also try checking the HD for bad blocks...
