I had a few problems with R5A12 which I haven't been able to recover.
(sorry I first posted this in the wrong category)

A few of them may be by own problems, with respects to loading modules for my wireless usb card/setting encryption/etc, which I can get working but not on boot. I have to manually
What happened to wlcardconfig?

The other was a mysql error that seems part of the R5a12 install, in which the backend never starts up correctly?

Are most using R5A12 as an upgrade, or new install from scratch?

I would normally have done an upgrade, but since I was moving to new better hardware, I decided to wipe the drives and do a clean install, and have had lots of problems.

I do like the new 2.6.9 kernel included as it supports much more of the hardware, and its really just mythtv/wireless configuration that seemed to work better with the R4 series of installs.

I do appreciate all the work being done and am looking forward to the next R5A## release.

Is there a best guess when there will be a next release?

I have setup two boxes on R5A12... one was an upgrade which required some additional effort, and one that was a new install...

the SQL database has worked fine on both installations...

I have the same problem.

Im running backend and frontend on the same pc.

First I tried to upgrade R4V4 to R5A12 and it went well - apart from the frontend telling me the backend is not running.

Then I tried a fresh install but with the same problem.

I think there was a SQL problem during install - but dont know how to find the installation log - if there is one.

Right now my box is "down" - hopefully someone has a solution.

what is wlcardconfig? have you used that in a knoppmyth release? I'm not saying it wasn't there I didn't actually put knoppmyth together, but I've been on these forums for a LONG time and I've never heard anyone mention it. You sure you weren't thinking of a knoppix utility, and if it was there why not mention it long before it's gone as I've seen numerous people struggling with wireless.

wlcardconfig was a utility to set wireless 802.11x devices.

It was there as I used it in a couple of the R4 myth realeses.

Also the netcardconfig utility automatically tries to execte wlcardconfig as it exits if it thinks it is a configuring a wireless device.

I am still convinced that a fresh install with R5A12 doesn't work for me, is there going to be another release soon?

odd I've installed with a wireless pci card and it never called anything other than netcardconfig.

I doubt that there will be another public release for a while, but only cesman knows for sure.

If there is a bug in R5A12 for new installs, wouldn't that prompt a new release?

hint hint cesman.. 8)

If someone could recommend a release for new installs. I need the newer kernels 2.6.x to support a hardware raid card so I can't go back to the R4 then upgrade.

Hint, hint? What bug? Even before the testers start kicking the tires on a new release, I install it several times and upgrade my productions systems. While R5 maybe lacking (it is labelled alpha), I cannot think of any installation bugs. I cannot help it if folks don't read my notes about the new release or if they don't read my instructions. Last but no least, have some patiences.
