Post subject:  Kernel Panic !

The installation seems to be OK but when I try to start the PC after installing I have a Kernel panic and it won't boot ... Actually, it seems that I have an error message just at the beginning of the install but I couldn't manage to read it. There's something odd : the dvd-rom drive is detected as 'hda' and my hard drive as 'hdb' and it seems that the error message is related to 'ide-scsi' ...

If somebody knows what it is ...
I have :

- ASUS Pundit
- P42.0GhzA (FSB400)
- 512Mo DDR PC3200
- DVD Pioneer 120
- HDD Maxtor Diamond 9 Plus 200Gb
- Hauppauge WinTV PVR250

If your hard drive is detected as hdb that could be why the kernel panics. Try the following:
Use the CD to boot.
Once booted <ctrl><atl><f1>
mount /dev/hdb1 /mnt/hdb1
chroot /mnt/hdb1
Now edit lilo.conf, change hda to hdb
lilo -v
exit
reboot

Good luck,

It worked.
In fact, when I choose hdb before installation, it changed all the hda occurencies in the lilo.conf except one.
Once I replaced it, it worked perfectly.

thanks

You're welcome! You'll want to do a manual install when R4 is released...
