Hi - looking for some help here please,

Okay,
Here's where I'm at with this..

I'm using an older wintv card. I think it's a card =10 in the CARDLIST.

when I try and watch TV it's in slow mo. about 2 frames per sec. Also, when I try and watched a ripped dvd I get the same thing. Slow mo.
and, when I try and watch a dvd nothing happens. I have it set up with the default settings for Mplayer. But when I hit the play DVD...nothing.

NOTE: when I run xawtx in xterm the picture on the tv looks great?

I tried going through the form posts but tere are som many with the same problems and to tell ya the truth I can't understand half of them being a newbie to linux and all. I really want to get this up and running.

thanks in advance for your help.

Can you give us info about your hardware (processor type/speed/ram amount etc.)?

Hi,
Yes - here's the info on my setup.

cpu = VIA 800 MHz

soundCard = Sb live

Vid Card = Jaton 32mb Balde t64

Capture Card = Older wintv card - 878 is loading on boot

256 RAM

via chipset on the MB

I've installed the i586 package - per cesman.

I've got the xmltv working, the music part works great. The tv part (watching) is the problem along with no dvd playback.

1.) tv problems; picture is choppy at best. I have not yet attemmpted to record a show.

2.) mplayer not working? Ogle works. but, it's very chopppy and unwatchable too. Xine does not work either.

any help would be great!

Thanks,

I don't think the via 800 is going to have enough horsepower to do live tv with a non pvr250 card, and maybe not with one. What you can try it to set your recording to mpeg4 and record a show then try to watch it and see if it still skips. The problem is with live tv the proccesor has to encode the video then turn around and decode the video and I just don't think you have enough cpu for that.

You may be right - except that this settop box is loaded with the following;

On Board
Direct NTSC/PAL output

TVIA CyberPro 5005
2D Graphics Accelerator
Multi format Alpha blending
64 bit DRAM interface optimized for SGRAM 512 x 32 up to 4MB
2x ITU-BT656, ITU-BT601 8bit video input interface, one from EM8400 (VP-A), one from DVBS (VP-B)
6 on chip DACS provide simultaneous S-Video, composite and RGB/SCART output or simultaneous VGA and TV output (S-Video and composite or RGB/SCART)
3 Video windows plus PIP
Color key, Chroma key, DirectDraw & Mpeg-1 playback
NTSC 640 x 480 @ 60 Hz,

VIA VT1611A/612A audio codec with 3D
AC97 2.1 compliant codec
Legacy audio SBPRO compatible

Proprietary w/ IR/IC convert to standard PS2 code - onboard remote

Rear panel has the following;

D-sub 15 pin VGA connector
Dual Stacked SCART connector (European, optional)
CBVS composite out (RCA jack yellow)
Audio out port (RCA jack white,red)
S-Video (4-pins DIN)
S/PDIF output (RCA jack orange)
Two LAN ports (RJ-45)
Dual stacked USB port
6-pin mini DIN shared connector for PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse

The link is here http://www.gctglobal.com/Products/Set_T ... 086n2.html

I bought this box just for the Myth. It has onboard TV and MPEg decoding. I just don't know how to load the proper driver's under Linux. So I slapped in an old winTV crd and a SBlive into it. Now I'm having the vid problems because of thgis. If someone could look at the link above you would see that this may just be the best box for a myth project IMO. and it's cheap, cheap, cheap!!!!

If someone could help me load the actuall linux drivers I would be so gratefull! Or even look at the specs and tell me if this box will even work for a myth project?

thanks in advance for your help :D

I'd follow XSecret's advice. I had a Duron 800 and it wasn't powerful enough for live tv but it did a GREAT job of recording(MPEG-4 480x480) and watching back later.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I will try and record and playback. about my box. Have you looked at the site in the link above? this box has a built in tuner and decoder along with a built in Vid card. It's capable of playing live TV with picture in picture. This is what the box is made for. they are common in the hotel industry for movie on demand services etc. It's ready to go when you buy it. I think I only paid 299.00 for the unti. All that is needed to complete it is a DVD rrive, RAM and a HD. It has a built in Lirc remote and wirless keyboard that work with the linux install.

Have a look at the site here http://www.gctglobal.com/Products/Set_T ... 5/k35.html

I have the linux drivers for the hardware but I have no idea how to load them. the video card seems to work in the install. The tunner does not.

Thanks,

Yes, I looked at the link. I see they also have MPEG-4 cards as an option. I'm going to assume that these cards are also used in hotels. I really don't the the C3 800 is powerfull enough on it own for live tv. You best option maybe RTJPEG at a low resolution.

well,....I got everything working.

Dvd play - yes
CD play - yes
Decode - yes
TV watch - yes
TV capture - yes
MythTV - no! :(

I had to switch my settop box back over to XP to get everything working. The min requirments for live TV on XP winTV are much. much lower than they are with Myth? Sucks because MythTV ROCKS!

thanks for all your help!
