Post subject: | boot options... |
Could someone tell me what the actual format is for the boot commands. I have tried "knoppix26" and get an error. I have tried "screen=800x600" and got an error. I want to try the new Kernel and I need to force 8x6... but obviously I'm doing something wrong. When I type "expert" things work fine, except for the fact that I'm not nearly talented enough to actually DO an expert install. (GRIN) Hep me please! joelb |

Good point.... I'm trying to say that when I insert the iso I burned of 5A12 and it tells me to use F2 and F3 for more boot options, and I look, I see that I can specify for the 2.6 kernel and the screen size, and I'm somehow mucking it up. do I understand I'm supposed to say knoppmyth -knoppix26 -screen=800x600 and I'll get the results I'm looking for? again, any help is appreciated. |

forget the knoppix26 part. but to be honest I have never gotten what you are trying to work with the new alpha's. You can also try just typing tv with nothing else. that option has been added back in as of R5A12. But once again didn't work where I really needed it. |

The Help screens say someting about knoppix26 will cause knoppmyth to load using the 2.6 kernel, which I've heard is acceptably stable. I understand that if I just let the cd load knoppmyth without specifying I'm using some variation of the 2.4 kernel in 5A12. I also need to tell the thing to keep the screen resolution to 800x600 or my flat panel tv can't display anything (pc input) and I can't see to finish the initial setup. Have I explained it a little better this time? ![]() jb |

ok here's the deal you can more or less ignore all the help options everything about that has changed other than the screens. they should probably just be removed. knoppmyth boots with a 2.6 kernel always. and the kernel name is knoppmyth. so instead of knoppix option or linux26 option or anything like that it's always knoppmyth options did you try just typing tv and nothing else at the boot prompt like I suggested. For that one and only that one you do not put knoppmyth in front of it. |

I had the same problem with my R5A12 CD. My monitor on my test setup is quite old, and only supports upto 800x600. The "tv" boot option just results in a garbled installation screen. It looks like the CD is not setting the screen to 800x600 at all. The only option I can use is "failsafe" mode. Rgds, Pete |

Rgds, Pete I found that booting with fb800x600 worked for me. I'm using an LCD monitor and that fixed me right up! amazing what you can accomplish if you actually RTFM (GRIN) Joelb |
