| Post subject: | Leadtek TV2000XP/EXPERT not recognized |
Does anyone have experience with the Leadtek TV2000XP/EXPERT? When I configure Mythtv, the console displays a message that it could not probe /dev/video or any port that I assign this card to. When my system boots, it also has a message from the OS that card is the Leadtek unrecognized 8800. Obviously I cannot watch TV. What can I do to get this card working? |

Do you know if this card is supportted by bttv? Take a look at /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/bttv/CARDLIST |

yes it is supported you need to add options to the bttv file specifying card=34 tuner=2 radio=1 |

I changed my bttv file to the following and I still cannot get running. alias char-major-81-0 bttv options bttv card=34 tuner=2 radio=1 I am missing something in this file or do I have the syntax wrong? I still get the black screen trying to watch tv. Also, in the mythtv-setup program, the Input connections screen does not have any entries. |

I don't know what to tell you that's what I have in my bttv0 file and it works fine with my leadtek 2000xp/delux unless the expert is different chipset or something I don't know what to tell you. |

What is the difference between the bttv and bttv0 files? |

bttv would be a general bttv configuration file, bttv0 would be used is /dev/video0 is a bttv device. bttv1 and so one...the same for ivtv. |

Doesn't the Expert have a Contextant chipset which doesn't have stable drivers for Linux yet? |

well if that's the case and the expert has the connexant chipset then it deffinately won't work "out of the box" on knoppmyth. |

Even though this card is listed in the cardlist, I think the support is very limited. I went to the bytesex.org webisite and they have a separate, very immature driver for this chip. I'm think about giving up on this card for now and maybe getting a PVR-250. I'll use this card again as a second tuner down the road if the support gets better. I reallly like the whole KnoppMyth package. Its just a shame that Linux drivers for the tuner card variations aren't as strong as the regular video drivers to make the setup easier. Thanks for the help. |

well I was mistaken when I told you to use card=34. that is for the leadtek 2000xp deluxe not the expert. they put a different chip in the expert, and it as you found out has a very limited very alpha driver. |

I did a lot of video card comparisons back during MythTV 0.8 which was back in March. The 10bit Contextant video cards had much better quality than the old 8bit Brooktree cards, but the drivers weren't there. Back then I heard that the drivers were going to be released by various sources "soon." Well, it's been 9-10 months and all we really have is alpha drivers. Ah well. There's always HDTV. |
