Hello,
This is my first time dealing with Knoppix or KnoppMyth.
I'm attempting to install R5A12.
The cd boots, I get the KnoppMyth splash screen with options for F2 and F3. Nothing in these options suggests using KnoppMyth for the image name. Attempts to use knoppix26 or knoppix for the image name fail. I finally just stabbed in the dark and tried knoppmyth and it began loading the image briefly (for >10sec).
..... and then the screen went blank and the keyboard locked - for no apparent reason. That's as far as I get. (this happens whether or not I type in a valid boot image name if I leave the system idle for longer than 5 seconds).
This system has another, currently not plugged in, harddrive running a fully-functional version of MCE2005 - so I know the hardware is fine.
Suggestions?
AMD 3000+, Hauppage PVR150MCE, Nvidia video, 512meg, 160GB SATA, etc etc etc.

Unfortunately, that did not change the symptom. It still acts the same.
Thanks,
Bob

One thing I forgot to mention, the processor is AMD64. Might have something to do with it.... might not.
Thanks,
Bob

Did you try just hitting enter or waiting for the default config to launch automatically?
Also, are your drives PATA or SATA?

In my attempts to solve the problem, I've failed once again.
I decided to try and rule out the possibility of a bad burn. So I burned the image with something other than Nero (Alcohol 120%), and I tried both DAO and Raw methods. Both versions burned from Alcohol perform precisely the same as the Nero copy. Doesn't *appear* to be the burn, unless someone has something else I should modify in my burn settings prior to writing.
Moving on - anyone else have anything? I'm drownin' here.
Thanks,
Bob

Nothing specific:
General things:
1. Go through the BIOS and turn off any features you don't need.
2. In addition, turn on features that allow SATA drives to be used like legacy PATA drives, if available.
3. Remove all cards except video out card to see if that changes the boot behavior.
(just the standard 'reduce the number of variables' approaches)

Got it. (mostly).
Alright, for those of you having this problem and need an actual answer - here's how I got around this:
I use the ASUS K8N board. Your motherboard option might be spelled out differently in the BIOS.
The ASUS K8N BIOS lists the option in the Power menu as:
ACPI APIC support
Disable that feature and Knoppmyth will continue past the boot menu. NOTE: you may also need to use the command line arguement of "noapic". Syntax: "knoppmyth noapic" from the boot: prompt.
If you're using SATA drives, the install may crash later on with the following error: "/usr/local/bin/KnoppMyth-auto: 608: / 10000000 syntax error operend expected error token is "/ 1000000")
Please refer to the following Knowledgebase article to assist you further: http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... ythInstall
This is where I'm stuck at the moment, but that discussion, for the sake of clarity, should not go on here.
Thanks to those who submitted assistance attempts... moving on to the next hurdle.
Bob

I got the same error on my disk because it had existing partitions on it (I think form Solaris x86 or something).
Try wiping out the partitions in advance and see if that helps.

I eventually figured that out too <smirk>, but I didn't follow the instructions to the T after creating the new ones and, understandably, ran into problems. I haven't had time to revisit it and do it the way it's written, but I expect it should roll out fine once I do what I'm told.
