Both CD's, the one from EFF & image I burned & verified via nero,
hang at boot (knopmyth never finished booting, and drops into a
limited console version of linux)

The error it lists :
PNPBIOS fault .. attempting recovery

and the suggested recovery" nobiospnp option " for boot does nothing.
I'll try the latest BIOS update tonight, but I don't have high hopes for that.

Hardware in use:
ASUS P4C800 E-Delux * 3.0Ghz Northwood * 1GB ddr400 ram
BIOS 10/26/04
http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket4 ... erview.htm
eVGA FX5200 256mb AGP
HD3000 tuner

Works fine with
KNOPPIX_V3.8.1-2005-04-08-EN.iso release. I have not tried the older
knoppix versions, but having 2 CD's that I'm confident are OK, and that
they both have the same "quirk" , I suspect the newer version of knoppix fixes something.

Suggestions??

Try changing the BIOS settings for whether or not you're running a PNP OS...

Tues AM update
Still not working, but I figured out a BIOS problem -
avoid the ASUS self-loading BIOS [alt-F2] I used it to install several
versions of the BIOS, and all had checksum errors, when I booted to
DOS floppy, and use program to install BIOS, that worked fine.

PNP os installed or not has no effect on knopmyth booting properly
Knoppix always boots OK
knopmyth seems to hang in 3 places: (then locks up) [3 different CD's from 2 different burners act the same, it's not a bum CD]

after autodetecting the harddrives, and CD drive, it hangs detecting a
non-existing SCSI CD drive then cycles thru

IRQ5
& IRQ 18

I'm going to try a different CD drive in the machine tonight, and then
a different IDE channel (maybe that sideways RAID connector, as a read-only will work)

Next I'll try pulling half my RAM out. Maybe 1GB is too much ??
RAM passes the MEMTEST [ that seems to load ok ]

At the build-in Sunday, you can spot me easily, I will be bald by then,

I would try to avoid any ram controllers and dissable them in the bios.

got some of it working, and into the myth setup screens, where my
mouse did not work, and I could not alter any of the pull-downs.

secret options:

knoppmyth pnpbios=off atapicd

while it was booting, I saw somewhere there it was using knoppix 2.78

I'm feeling a little better, but no TV yet, but there is hope for the OS

Just got to figure out Frontend & Backend terms, something like
program schedules and actual recording work ?
