HW:
ASUS P4B533-E BIOS v1.14
768MB RAM
Maxtor 20GB (hda)
Samsung DVD (hdc)
VisionPlus DVB-T
PS2 Mouse
PS2 Keyboard
Soundblaster Audigy

The computer is freezing after "Autoconfiguring Devices .... Done" it does a carriage return and the cursor sits ther laughing at me.

What I have tried so far:
R5A12 booted and installed fine.
Test new R5A15 CD on another computer, boots fine.
Tried nousb, nofirewire, no this that and the other, no difference
I have APIC set to PIC, I have PNP OS set to Off, also passed these as boot options no difference.
Tried CTRL+ALT+F2 but nothing.
Tried booting a normal Knoppix 3.8.1 CD same thing.
Tried failsafe option, same again.

I can't lspci -v and paste it into the message with R5A12 as my SSH isn't working for some reason and I have never bothered the forums with finding a solution, thus one of the motivating factors for the upgrade.

Any ideas why idea A12 worked and A15 doesn't.

Thanking you all in advance for taking the time to read this message and especially to those that respond.

Different kernel. Try booting with:
Code:
knoppmyth apci=off

I think this is the same issue I am facing.

I built an R5A12 system the other say, and I recently got a old of an old-stock PVR-250 and I wanted to upgrade the system from scratch to R5A15 and the old PVR-250 (for a non-PC savvy family member at great distance from me, didn't want to keep futzing with PVR-150).

However, when I booted R5A15 my ath0 D-Link DWL-520G wifi card was no longer detected, nor could I get my USB memory key to come up and mount.

I've booted as Cecil suggested and I'm reinstalling, I'll post my results here for others who run in to a similar issue. There are six onboard USB ports and it looks like some potential IRQ issues, but it all worked well under the older kernel.

No Dice. I brought the system up again with that flag and then did an install. Upon reboot of the hd based install, I still had no ath0 and my usb key drive support doesn't seem to be working correctly either.

Is there another way to reenable this?

Thanks,

-Jeff

cesman,

I have tried that one already, but no dice. I went to Knoppix website and printed out there cheat sheet as to see what other options there are, but I tried at least 90% of them and they didn't make a difference.

I've not disable ACPI in the BIOS and in the lilo.conf file, and while lspci shows my Atheros based card, it doesn't appear to iwconfig. Nor does my USB key drive mount properly, it complains its not a valid block device.

Anything else I can try?

I'm not very knowledgeable about kernel modules etc, but in poking around I'm wondering if the madwifi drivers aren't compiled against the kernel that shipped with R5A15? Or am I talking out my ass :)

Further update.

I went back to R5A12 (yes I know it is a different kernel).

The USB key worked fine out of the box and my ath0 interface was detected as I recalled.

The wifi I kind of understand, but since dmesg showed /dev/uba1 being detected under R5A15 I'm confused as to why it didn't mount properly....

jac1d,

Could I ask what your issues have to do with my original problem of not booting off the CD AT ALL.

Not knowing the exact problem I can't answer definitively, but I believe the PCI auto detection module(s) are to blame in both cases.

So then jac1d is your computer freezing when booting off the R5A15 CD at the point where KnoppMyth does Autoconfiguring ...Done"?

No, as I outlined, my situation appears to be somewhat different in that I am able to boot.

However, to finish my thought, I got to talk to Dale on IRC and it looks like a SCSI module is missing from the kernel config and as a result USB memory keys (and perhaps HDs? not sure) won't work out of the box. He was going to mention it to Cecil.

No progress on the wifi autodetection.

 It just really upsets me that you state "my situation appears to be somewhat different...", then why did you containment my post with your stuff.

It would have been better to start your own post with your own information as nothing you have posted in this thread has anything to do with my original post. Whilst I do appreciate you taking the time to post issues that "may" relate, they have no bearing on my issue whatsoever.

My apologies, I had thought they were similar.

jac1d, I don't mean to be rude, but how could you get the result that you are able to install R5A15 to your HDD, but I can't get past the message "Autoconfiguring..." that these problems are similar.

I never get as far as installing KnoppMyth.

Could I just asked that you read twice and think three times before posting.

Thanks.
