I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way...

So no one else has come across this problem. This is terribly unfortunate.

Is there anyway I can see what the startup process is chocking on?

I have exactly the same problem with freezing after Autoconfiguring...Done ...

Only just tried installing R5A15 about 5 mins ago ... so can't really help right now ..

The commonality is we both have VisionPlus DVB-T .. I actually have 2 in the box, but that was working with R5A10

I have the same problem.

If I remove the twinhan 1020a dvb-s card it loads fine though.

I tried reinstalling the twinhan card after installation and it now locks up on the bttv driver.

yeh i tried that as well. loaded the new version r5a15.1 without the cards installed to see how it went. installed no worries at all, but once the cards were reinstalled it locked up on the boot.

there looks to be some patches for the kernel around teh place. will see what i can find out about them and with any luck patch the kernel and see if it works.

I don't know if this is relevant, but when I had R5A12 installed this was before I owned a Visionplus DVB-T card. When I put it into the system it crashed on booting up at the part where the system is trying to load the new modules.

How I got around this was to remove the card, modified /etc/modules to put the correct modules in and then it worked.

Would this theory apply to R5A15.1, I won't have a chance to try this myself until later in the week, any thoughts?

nah i don't think that is the issue. i have read up on it and there is a problem with the kernel and bttv. there is a patch from 2.6.11.7 to 2.6.11.8 which should fix the problem. i am looking into trying that out now.

Doh! Doh! Doh! As, I'm out of town on business, I'll look into this early next week. Feedback on your findings would be appreciated.

I have compiled the new kernel 2.6.11.8 and the system does not hang anymore. I am now recompliling mythtv to work with the new kernel

got it to work.

here is what i did

1.Installed R5a15.1 without the twinhan card installed
2.Downloaded and compiled kernel 2.6.11.8
3.Installed new kernel
4.Installed cards back into system
5.Recompiled mythtv-0.18 to point to the new dvb drivers (/usr/include)

And it works.

That is great jbman, you wouldn't have made notes while you were doing it did you? I would really appreciate it, if you could email it across. :D

Could I ask why you need to recompile the Kernel with the updated version? As the driver itself is a module how would upgrading the kernel after this?

well when we reffer to modules we're actually refering to LKM's (loadable kernel modules) and they get compiled with the kernel.

no worries i will make the list of what i did in morning (my time +8) and give you a link to the compiled kernel. it uses the same config as the original r5a15.1 so there wont be any other problems with it.

Thanks.
