Hey, I just read that 2.6.11.9 is now part of r5v16.. Has anyone tried this to fix the hanging irq problem, or do I have to kill my production machine to test it out. . ?

Love the Code guys.

If you are patient I will be giving this a go on the weekend and I will let you know how it goes.

I tried the install and had same problem with the freezing at the Autoconfigure done part.
I'm new to linux and knoppmyth. I did post a post in the installation part but my post got deleted (sorry).
My main question was seeing so its is upgraded past the fix in this thread, what should one do now? Would manual setting of irq's be a possibility?

I have set my IRQs manually in my BIOS and this did not work for R5A15.1 so I will be trying R5A16 this weekend with my settings and I will report back on what transpired.

Just a tip though is that I have seen on kernel.org that in v2.6.12rc4 there are DVB patches for the kernel, I don't know if this is really relevant to our problem though, just thought I would mention it.

:( sorry to report that it still doesn't boot with the card inserted.

I am currently doing an Autoinstall, so once it has finished I will see if I can insert the card directly without having to do anything with the kernel.

Till next time.

Great work Girkers on this script. I'm no linux expert, but should the dkpkg actually be dpkg?

Probably glenr, but to be honest I haven't used the script for a while now.

The thing I am confused about now is that with the release of R5A16 containing kernel 2.6.11.9 I still can't get my card to work. I suppose I will have to get my script back out and recompile the kernel again.

Has anyone else got any ideas on how to get this working. I have no problem of install KnoppMyth without my card inserted and then doing stuff to get it going.

Just currently after installing a fresh copy of R5A16 and getting to the stage of MythTV starting automatically, I then shutdown and insert my card and when the boot sequence autodetects the card, bttv driver stops while it is loading.

Any pointers on where to head from here?

With the new 2.6.11.9 kernel and R5A16 - I still had the issue of it hanging at boot-up. I then used your script, however I updated the config to grab the 2.6.11.11 kernel. I then rebooted (still without the visionplus card) and made sure everything was fine.

I then shutdown the machine, put the card in and it booted perfectly.

Hopefully that helps in some way

Thanks glenr, I will look at trying the script on a fresh install and see how I go. I will probably go to the bleeding edge and download 2.6.12-r# as I know in version 2.6.12-r4 there were patches for dvb, dst and bttv drivers. I will report back how it goes.

I found this in the V4L2 lists whilst looking for a way to get my other tv card working :S
its located at this url http://eeek.borgchat.net/lists/vfl/msg16017.html
I'm a newbie so I hope I'm doing this correctly.
I wonder if this has been the problem all along? (seems to be)
Does this mean if we edit the said file(module??) on previous distro's of knoppmyth it too will work without the hang??
If so how does on do this :S

Well iluciv, I think that is the exact fix that made it into the newer kernel in R5A16. Someone mentioned a while ago that the kernel that is used by the installer may not be the same kernel that is loaded with knoppmyth. If that is the case, It would hang when trying to install, but would work if you inserted the card for the first reboot. Can cesman comment on the version of the kernel used by the installer?

I have updated my script (at home atleast) and I tried to install 2.6.12-rc6, but alas this did not work at all. I went back to 2.6.11.12 and it worked a treat.

Once I iron out the bugs and tidy up my script I will repost it, with some extra stuff kindly donated by Greg Frost.

Here is a link to my updated script and here is the usual stuff.

Please use at your own risk, whilst I have taken all care to ensure that every thing works ok, I am no script genius, so be warned.

If you use this script could you let me know how it goes, I am curious to see how it goes for other people.

first of all thanks to everyone for working on this /program/patchs/scripts I'm constantly amazed by the work people do for linux; Its quite inspiring.
Girkers: I used your script but don't really know what I'm doing (and I was trying to rush the install so I could watch state of origin on my knoppmyth box. Had trouble editin lilo. conf can't seem to make the kernel image exist.
Firstly I was getting an error about "new" as an unknown variable at 112 so I commented all the lines out that looked the same eg{new}

then I got secondary error unknown kernel source

The script ran well except for not finding a few sites.

I esp like new font sizes :)

Thanks heaps agian

the footies on
