In the auto-upgrade section of the pamphlet, there is a statement that reads:

"if the version installed is greater than the version that was updated"

Let's say I am auto-upgrading from version A to version B. Does this mean that

version installed = B
version that was updated = A
??

Another question,

I am trying to get TV Out working on a machine that I am booting from the network. When I boot, I get the "Press <RETURN> to see modes......" prompt mentioned in the pamphlet. The pamphlet says to modify lilo.conf then run lilo -v. Will this cause a reboot? Do I need to reboot after this? Will typing "knoppix vga=normal" at the boot prompt have the same effect?
My concern is that if I reboot I will loose the config change I made, because I am booting from the network and the ramdisk will be recreated from the original image.

knoppmyth vga=normal will give you the same result, but if you were able to get past the message there is no need to worry about this anymore.

Actually I think that this is an upgrade vs. downgrade issue... (Autoupgrade is not quite a misnomer but you can "upgrade" to an earlier version in some cases, say for example if you discover your have HW problems with the latest kernel...)

Xsecrets,

I get past it by hitting the key to ignore and continue. The display comes up on my TV, but it is narrower than the screen and the color depth is like 256 bits or something.

Any quick tips would help. I'll keep searching the forum and wiki.

tjc,

That's what I was thinking. I misunderstood the pamphlet. I thought I had to use whether I was upgrading or downgrading to make a decision whether or not to "just exit mythtv-setup." After reading it more closely, it looks like I should just exit if it runs.

Thanks

I already gave you a quick tip.

knoppmyth vga=normal

at the boot prompt will get rid of the error you are seeing, however it may not fix your screen problems, that actually sounds like an X setting.

Everybody always says to type "knoppmyth xxx=xxx" at the boot prompt, but it never works for me unless I type "knoppix" instead of "knoppmyth".

Is this a problem, or will it do the same thing?

It is not a problem, but I would be VERY surprised if knoppix anything works in R5A12 or newer. The kernel name was changed in these versions. If you have an older version that still uses the knoppix kernel name the options will work with that name.
