My machine locks up at this point "Probing SCSI... aic7xxx.o". This problem has occurred with other distributions of linux as well.

Is there a way that I can skip the Probing for SCSI devices when starting from the CD.

Bah I stopped being lazy and pressed F2 and saw the option for starting without SCSI.

For anyone that is interested, at the splash screen type: knoppmyth noscsi

same problem here, only the noscsi option didn't do the trick. i've got an adaptec something or other aic7xxx is the right kernel module for it. it hangs looking for a disc in the SCSI cdrom, even though i booted from an IDE cdrom. hard drive is IDE also. anybody got a clue? it works fine if i pull the SCSI card out.
