Post subject:  PVR-350 blank screen with Myth

I have installed Myth using your wonderfully easy distribution. I have a PVR-350 and my system accurately recognizes it and loads the ivtv drivers. I also have a bt878 but left that out of the mix for now (due to it stealing video0 when I want the 350 to have video0 since I have a light CPU (Dell Dimension XPS T500 with 786 MB RAM & 120 GB HDD). Anyway, When I cat /dev/video0 >/tmp/test.mpg, I can view the file just fine with mplayer (both audio & video). When I attempt to Watch TV in Myth, the screen just goes black.....no video....no audio.

Some things I've checked....
In mythtv-setup (step2), I've ensured the capture cards section has the PVR-350 card selected and video0 selected (also just tried /dev/video without the zero). I've also checked step 4 of the setup to ensure that I have the input for Tuner0 set to cable (which is the name I provided in step 3 when I did my cable provider selection.

I've ruled out driver not loading, faulty cable service, faulty cable coax wire, etc. since the cat provides flawless audio/video.

# /bin/dmesg |grep ivtv
ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 0
ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 32
ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 224
ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 16

Finally I initially tried installing on an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ machine with little luck so I swithed to my less powerfull Dell machine as I heard of issue with the Via chipset and wanted to rule that out.

I've attempted to search the forum for a solution but to no avail. I'm not a complete idiot (i hope) but I am new to linux so I may have missed something obvious. Can anyone think of something for me to try/check? I'm not well versed in linux so sometimes I need a little hand-holding in exactly what commands to enter to check something....I appreciate your patience with me.

Thanks again for your consideration and for the hard work you've put into such a nice distribution.

Perhaps installing a newer ivtv driver. I've posted instructions on doing so...

Where are those instructions?

Thanks for the quick reply......I found and followed your instructions here:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=223

And it worked like a charm.

Rebooted twice, each time checking Myth Watch TV to ensure it worked. Now that I got that working, I figured I'd press my luck and install the bttv card. Neither card then worked.

#dmesg |grep ivtv
<snip>
ivtv: 031118A loaded <----I assume this should say 031125A loaded

It appears it reverted back to the older driver as a result of me throwing in the bttv card (perhaps?) or more likely I didn't exactly follow your instructions (I swear I did but I am a noobie and I know how they can miss the obvious). Anyway, I ran a make clean on the /ivtv/driver and ivtv/utils directory and then ran a make and make install in the /ivtv/drivers and a make in the /ivtv/utils directory and rebooted. Still no luck...reports still as 031118A. So I took out the bttv card and rebooted....truth is, I'm not hell bent on having the bttv....I'd like to get another PVR-350 instead.

Another topic...it's likely too late for the next release, but is it possible to include the lirc snapstream support? I use a snapstream remove ir receiver (with a Tivo remote actually), and the current lirc requires a diff patch to be applied to the latest CVS. I know it works as I've successfully done it using Jarod's myth build on Fedora Core. The CVS is here:

http://lirc.sourceforge.net/software/sn ... e2.tar.bz2

I then had to apply the diff patch that was located here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/szremote/

And follow the steps to apply the patch.

if there's more info you need, I'd be glad to provide.

I do really appreciate you being there....doing such a great job building a wonderful dist and being so responsive in the forum. Let me know how I can return the favor.

well the for a second card I wouldn't whaste the money on a 350 just get a 250. and as for the bttv card wanting to take video0 that is fine you just use bttv0 and ivtv1 then when you setup mythtv you add video1 first, and it will use the 350 before it goes to the bttv card. That is the way I have mine setup, because I didn't feel like playing suffle the pci cards.
