Hi.

I know this is a common problem, but I can't find the answer that works for me in the knoppmyth forum!

Upon boot, I find that my audio is muted, and alsamixer shows Item: Headphone muted. If I unmute and bump up the volume all is well.

mythtv forums say just set up alsactl to save your alsa settings, and restore them at boot.

But alsactl is not in the knoppmyth dist!

apt-get install alsa-utils fails, with kudzu dependancies.

Anyone know the fix for this?

THANKS, and sorry for what might be a redundant question. I searched I failed. Now I ask.

- pete

Hi, thanks for the idea cesman.

I had tried aumix with no success. there is no "Headphone" slider.

Adjusting all of the sliders in aumix has no affect.

Quitting and returning to alsamixer shows that "headphone" is still volume 0 muted.

Volume is being controlled by AlsaMixer "Headphone" and "PCM"

Any ideas on that?

I hope I don't have to get into a sound card conversation (onboard Intel8x0).

Thanks!

I am having the same problem, I will increase the volume and the PCM and everything will be great. I then switch from live TV to a recorded program and the volume settings have returned to their low volume again. I have saved the settings use aumix but they keep returning to their original levels. I am going to read the manpage and see if I am doing something wrong.

well if you are talking about the pcm volume mythtv has it's own volume control which controls the pcm. you may want to adjust the volume within mythtv.

Not my problem. Mine is that upon reboot "Headphone" is volume 0 and muted.

Still no solution.

Howdy

# dmesg | grep Audio
Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 0.24, 17:46:35 Oct 2 2003

alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio

IBM 810 mobo onboard audio, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm also having the same problem, but with me it's not the headphone slider that's the problem, it's the surround sound slider that aumix doesn't show

Cesman pointed this out to me (same problem you guys have):

Login as mythtv

edit .fvwm/.fvwm2rc

Comment out:
exec KnoppMyth-run

add the following line instead:
exec mythfrontend

reboot... should be just fine!

Alas, this did not work for me. My "headphone" setting still sits at volum 0 and muted.

Arg!

You can Kano's experimental ALSA installer. http://kano.mipooh.net/install-alsa-knoppix.bash
