Hiya guys,

I am trying to upgrade to the newest Knoppmyth and my machine hangs during the boot process at the DHCP IP detection.

Says it found the eth0 properly.

I don't normally run a DHCP server, however, I did put one one my firewall. No luck with or without.

Keyboard no longer functions either - numlock doesn't go on/off....maybe just a bad burn?

I found that every time I reboot it gets another IP from the DHCP pool. As I have my DHCP pool set at 30 max on my LinkSys router and 3/4 are used it runs out of IP's quick when you reboot many times trying things and testing.

Not shure if its a problem in the LinkSys or R5A10 but the windows XP PC's seem to be fine.

Firewire - Nope....no onboard firewre - nor do I have a Firewire card in the machine.

I used to be able to get past this point and put in my static IP 0 192.168...etc

Surely I can't be the only one having this problem?

I have burned multiple disks, so it is not just a bad burn.

They all hang during "found eth0 - broadcasting for DHCP IP."

No keyboard response after that. I have left the machine for 20 mins with no change.

Everyone else can install just fine? Can anyone help me?

Problem sharing irq 11? Worked with previous version of my myth install (obviously). Maybe if I disabled the USB stuff in my bios? Did something change with the modules in this new version?

lots of things changed with the modules in the new version. to start with they are all for 2.6 kernel instead of the 2.4 that the old version had.

I c. So this is a significant change. I will try a number of different hardware changes then. It doesn't like my old setup.

I will let you know what I find out.

Wow....are there a lot of changes.

I got the upgrade to run by changing to a different ethernet card (old one was a Netgear FA310TX).

However....now mythweb is in a different spot (you need to go to http://yourhost/mythweb now)

The mythtv-setup is now a GUI app that can only be run from the X server - so you can't ssh in and make those changes.

Also....my PVR-250 no longer works. To be specific, when I pick it from the menu of card choices (in the mythtv-setup), it will not let me choose any other option except Television as the input. I have my Sat hooked up to the S-VHS input. Then if you go to video inputs, it dies with a seg fault.

Since I have now royally screwed up my system anyway, I am going to try a fresh install and see if that makes a difference.

yes mythweb moved.

The pvr issue is discussed in the install instructions for the alpha, you have to put ivtv in the /etc/modules

mythtv-setup has always been a gui application that had to be run from xterm.

Yup...my mistake about mythtv-setup - it has always been a gui...I gotta stop with the drugs ;-)

I got everything working back again. Had to do the modules thing to get my PVR-250 working (I adjust the KnoppmythWiki to reflect the required changes as I had trouble finding them).

I got Samba working fairly painlessly, but the video dir seemed to move. I could swear it used to be /myth/video and is now /var/lib/mythtv - so I just made a link.

I also had some trouble getting my serial IR transmitter working again, but eventually, after re-compiling the kernel to get the needed .h files (didn't actually have to install the kernel), and then recompling a 2nd LIRC as described in http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/my ... _LIRC.html

I got it all back to working. Now...to test the reason I did all this - the supposedly new and improved commercial skip detection.

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

yeah that's one of my big reasons for moving to 0.17 as well, and so far I'm not impressed, but only tested a few shows.

I've tried it both with and without a DHCP server. I can boot using knoppix (not knoppixmyth, just knoppix) 3.7, but I get the same problem with 3.8 as with KnoppMyth

Hardware details
Athlon 1.4
IWill kk266+R
484mb of ram
Monster MX300 (Aureal, so knoppix doesn't like it)
Ati All In Wonder PCI (16mb)
ATI TV Wonder (bt878)
NIC: Kingston KNE100TX (does work with Knoppix 3.7)

Should I try installing Knoppix 3.7 to the HD, dist-upgrade, then install mythtv? Thanks

What exactly are you reporting? That you cannot get an IP from your DHCP server? It is probably a DHCP server that doesn't follow the specs to well. If the live CD doesn't work, what makes you think installing to hard drive would work? Try dhclient, if that does work, try pump. Google is your friend, drivers do exist for the Aureal.

Regards,
