K6-500
Hauppauge PVR-350

Got installed, able to do mythfilldatabase.

Video device set to /dev/video0

When I try to watch TV, I get a black screen. I have to kill mythfrontend and in xterm I see:

Enabled verbose msgs : important general
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: connection refused
Failed to create lirc socket for mythtv
Unable to open mixer: '/dev/mixer'

I do not have a sound card installed because, once setup, I plan to only have the TV connected to the myth box. Is a sound card necessary with the PVR-350? If so, I have an old ISA Sound Blaster compatable sound card (has ESS AudioDrive chip)...will this one work?

Also how can I be sure that I have correcly selected /dev/video0 as the capture card?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

Sounds like your mythtv frontend can not communicate with your mythtv backend.
Run mythtv-setup and check that you have entered the correct IP address.

Would that be the "Master Server IP adress"? I do have that correctly set to 10.0.0.101 which is the IP address of the computer. I have the backend and frontend running on the same machine.

If you have the backend and frontend running on the same machine then you can just leave all the default addresses.

By the way, I have updated ivtv using the directions given here:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=223

when I run /bin/dmesg |grep ivtv I get:

Does this look right, or should I be concerded about the last few lines?

Also, when I go to the first console (Alt-F1) I see a line that states:

Starting MythTV server: mythbackendQSettings: error creating /.qt

I seem to be able to record TV and when I go to view the recording I see the recorded program in the lower right corner, but if I try to view the program full-screen I get a black screen and mythfrontend locks up.

Thanks again,

Jason

You can ignore any errors about .qt. Since the back/frontend are on the same machine you can(should) leave it the IP as 127.0.0.1 . What chipset on the motherboard? Have you check the ivtv archive?
