hi folks,
I'm stuck trying to figure out how to stop Knoppmyth-run from running on a fresh 'frontend-only' install on my old Dell laptop. From the Wiki:

Quote:
Before rebooting, you also have to make sure that the KnoppMyth config scripts don't run again otherwise they will try to setup a backend. To keep the config scripts from running, edit /home/mythtv/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc, go to the very end of the script, comment out exec KnoppMyth-run and uncomment exec mythfrontend.

"/home/mythtv/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc" doesn't exist in R5A12, that I can tell. Otherwise, following the Wiki instructions work perfectly. And yes, I'll be upgrading to R5A16 soon. Very soon! (waiting for the Myth Mac guys to cough up a full-blown MythTV 0.18 version!).

In R5 alpha, you would edit (as mythtv user) ~/.fluxbox/apps . You'd change KnoppMyth-run to mythfrontend... although I'm not sure that's necessary anymore. I don't think I made this change on my R5 alpha frontend, and it never prompts me to enter my password like it used to with R4. Maybe something has changed about KnoppMyth-run to recognize that it doesn't have to run if the backend isn't running.

It's mostly looking for a couple dotfiles which you can fake easily enough. You'll have read the script for details however since I don't remember what they are...

Whoops, looks like I had the logic backward, the existance of the files triggers the actions so all you need to do is remove them.
