I'm on the lookout... but whoever comes next will probably also suffer from this:

After configuring and installing as per the pamphlet, I now have a second error (related to the fact that I am installing on a drive other than /hda). It is the same problem as in this post:

When I finally got to the mke2fs lines I get:
bash: mk2fs: command not found

I tried being resident in the sbin dir where I see mk2fs living, made sure my case was ok etc. Still searching the forum, but I get tons of stuff in the search results to search through.

That would be because you've misspelled the name of the command. Type "mk" (without the quotes) and hit tab twice. You want either mke2fs or mkfs with the right arguments...

tjc this is a paste of the line from the manual install instructions:

# mke2fs -O sparse_super -m0 -i8000000 -L cache -M /cache /dev/hda3

I don't understand the "tab twice" please explain...though a newbie, I know some basic commands.

I was about to load a full debian install on another machine to see if the command worked. I was thinking maybe the knoppmyth disc was missing the command or corrupted or something.

Thanks for the prompt reply

I though hit tab twice was pretty self explanatory myself. If you've used bash more than a few minutes without knowing how tab completion works then you have cause yourself much unnecesary pain.

try doing exactly what the said type in mk then hit the tab key twice you should see what all the hoopla is about.

Ah, that was your second mistake. ;-) Always cut and paste when you can and save yourself even more grief. If you don't have some machine where you can use a browser and ssh into your Knoppmyth box you need to set one up ASAP (If all your other boxes are MS-Windows "putty" is the tool to look for). That and setting up webmin are the two best things you can do to make working on the box much easier.
