i searched the forums. but didn't find anything that solved my particular problem.

This is my first Linux and MythTV installation.

I installed everything from the CD, then removed the CD and restarted. Now I get an error

"I cannot start the X server (your graphical interface). Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?"

I don't know what that means, but It then gives me a text prompt for login and password. I login as root, but don't know where to go from there. all I see is text. Again I'm new to Linux, so I'm not sure what to try from here.

I'm not using TV out, but I am using a Nvidia Geforce2 videocard. could it bea driver problem?

Run the script ( install-nvidia-6629-debian.sh) to install the nvida driver and report back.

I have no experience with ATI in linux but if you looked at the ATI website you will find they have a linux driver. Unfortunately cesman has not put in a script to install any driver for ATI why he only knows.

Anyway you could try this link
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

Good luck and my god be with you.

really? so what is install-radeon-debian.sh ? granted it may not be the latest, I can almost guarantee it's not as one was just released, but the script and driver is there we don't talk about it too much as none of the developers use ati because they are notoriously difficult to use for this type of box with tvout. There is also one supposed success story with ati tvout on the forums here somewhere.

ooops sorry missed that you had the all in wonder. I know you don't want to hear this, but forget it noone on the planet has gotten an all in wonder to work for tvin and tvout. It is just not possible at this time. You can search till you are blue in the face and you will not find a single sole that has been succesfull at least with mythtv.
