After giving up on manual installation for sata, I bought a wd160g ide drive. cd auto installs in 10 mins. When I try to do the nvidia install procedure for my fx-5200 I get a screen of problems ending with:
"Read-only file system NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run could not be extracted and has been deleted. Please restart this script."

5. If you have an nVidia graphics card, when the front end attempts to start (the Xterm window will disappear and the KnoppMyth desktop will remain on the screen), you will have to install the nVidia graphic drivers. To do this, press <CTRL><ALT><F1> to exit X.

6. To install the nVidia drivers. Log in as root, R4VX type install-nvidia.sh R5AX type cd /usr/local/bin then type ls *nvidia* and then type install-nvidia-xxxx-debian.sh where xxxx is the driver version included in your KnoppMyth distribution.

I am following the wiki and got the frozen screen as described, ctrl-altf1 to do above, tried both drivers. so far just the R5 splash screen aqs above.
