Post subject:  Netcard not recognized, so manually installed..

My Asus motherboard has a Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit LAN Controller on it that KnoppMyth (Release 5A16) doesn't recognize..

I have gone to a term session an manually configured this (the module is sk98lin.. it's in there!)

Unfortunately, the installation went past the root login.. and went ahead with no netcard.. Is there a script that I can execute to get be back and restart the installation procedure? (Plan B would be to re-start the installation from the CD-ROM..)

Thanks!

I forget the exact procedure to restart the install script you have to remove a file then run a script or something, but if all you are worried about the the network then netcardconfig is the part that takes care of that.

Actually, the netcard & networking looks ok.. thanks for the hint, in case I've got at start from scratch.. might be easier than the "pure manual" method that I used!

Nice reminder on your signature.. about the FAQ & wiki pages..

OK, so I couldn't find out what the "something" is.. all attempts to configure the on-board net functions failed to be recognized by the KnoppMyth installer.. :( .. so screw it.. I turned it off in the BIOS.. and bought a cheap D-Link netcard (DFE-520TX+) .. and started from scratch. .. WORKED.

One Request for the development team: check into getting a Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit LAN Controller to work.. these are on some motherboards... such as my ASUS P5P800. Debian install can see it .. no sweat.. hint: "modprobe sk98lin" works on your Debian kernel.

I don't see what the big problem is if the module is there and works just add the modulename to /etc/modules from then on it will get loaded on boot then just run netcardconfig to setup the networking or do it manually (once) in the /etc/network/interfaces file.

I don't think there is anyone on the knoppmyth devel team writing hardware detection code, they just use the hardware detection from knoppix.

The only problem is.. (I tried that) the install script ignored the setting, and moved ahead like there was no net.

It did recognize the D-Link netcard and complete install. I should be able to remove the D-Link net card, and reconfig the Marvell 88E8001 Gb LAN Controller and continue down the dusty trail from here.

I upgraded to R5A22 .. the "Auto Upgrade" saw both network interfaces.. I selected the built-in LAN Controller. Worked! Then removed the D-Link card. Everything is "peachy"!
